I have a Blackhawk 36 mm socket in 1/2" drive that I bought 50 years ago. It was bought to do rear axles on VW vans which was a job I used to do in Hawaii at a Hippie VW shop. Never used it for that but 40 years ago I got to use it replacing the rear seal on a VW engine. Fast forward to 18-19 years ago I had my housemate machine the bevelled edge off this socket so I could use it on the triple clamp off my 1975 BMW motorcycle. The nut on this is very thin and the socket has to sit flat on the top clamp to not slip and ruin the nut. He never finished this job and I had to finish off the bevelled edge with a file.

Well, that's the biggest socket I think I have. Have owned it for more than 50 years. The chrome has been peeling for a long time.

EDIT. Just remembered I have a 3/4" drive socket set. Hardly ever use it. Mostly Plomb antiques.

That jackstand makes me nervous.
You don't need to ;) - this was only a small part of the scene - there was another big trolley jack beside and brake shoes (a little bit downhill to the left) - this was only to check and clean the brakes and exchange the brake cylinders after 10 years - no powerful or violent works... and no use of the 46mm socket at this time...

Superb Type 2 !

I remember these, in this exact colour combination, from the 1970’s. They seemed so exciting and vibrant back then!

The 70’s was a dangerous time to grow up - one bad decision by your parents and you could end up being taken to school in something like this - 34EC292A-4626-4DF2-8A05-BFF7F91272A6.jpeg

I just clicked on your link. Wonderful collection!

In metric drawer… 38mm in 1/2” and 3/4” in impact. 27mm in chrome 1/2” shallow and deep. 24mm in swivel/universal impact. 22mm in hex socket and T-70 in Torx.

I have 1 1/4”deep and shallow in impact and chrome in 1/2” drive and 1 7/16” in 3/4” impact.

In Whitworth, I only have up to 3/8” which would be about 11/16” SAEish. Nothing big.

I have a 40mm 1/2" drive impact socket for some weird CV axle nut I did a few years back and a 2-3/4" 3/4" drive chrome socket I used on boiler hand holds that I've had for ever!

My biggest 1/2 drive sockets are 36mm and 1 1/4", and I have a set of 3/4 in drive that tops out at 1 7/8" so I'm pretty solidly middle of the road I reckon.

My largest 1/2” drive socket is 1 and a quarter. In 3/4 drive I have an 1 and a half inch socket.
These are my personal tools. If and when I needed something larger I used my employers tools.

The largest wrench I own is a 6” six point slugger.
