I recently bought an inch ratchet probably just because i liked it because it was a Plvmb, but i have used my 3/4 inch with some sockets up to about 1.5 inch. i might need to use some of my bigger sockets once i start to restore a few big vises and tools, but some of you guys using the 4 inchers are some serious bolt turners.

i was looking into a German made Leinen vise and come across this video with the biggest damn wrench I've ever seen. they are only using a 32 MM socket, but two guys on the wrench and look at that vise hold that piece.

enjoy

That is awesome, I love big heavy stuff. I am amazed that 1" was able to handle that size nut.

I love making tools, the problem is I sometimes forget what I made them for.

I have up to 3 1/2" sockets and I have used it on the base of a tower. It is 1" drive.

If you ever get a chance take some more pictures of your knaack box set ups. They look similar to mine and I am always looking for organizational ideas.
Probably a 2-1/2" wrench for me on hydro fittings

Wow you guys use some big stuff! I keep hoping to use some of my sockets bigger than 1 inch and 25mm. Someday.

I'm fairly complete up to 2-1/2" and 50mm. With that being said, the largest wrench I've ever used is probably 1-1/4". :lol_hitti

Biggest I know I've used is 1-1/4". Biggest I use regularly is 15/16". I'm sure I've handled bigger with adjustable wrenches I just don't know the actual sizes.

26" open end wrench, 5 feet long used on very large reciprocating compressor piston rod to cross head lock nut. Lifted by an overhead bridge crane, torque measured by a scale attached to the crane hook.

kB Ariel frame? That's the largest wrench Iv used so far.
Are you a compressor tech?

Not counting truck axle nut socket's, I use a 3-1/8 all the time for the 2" bolts on truck cranes/loaders.

Petrochemical machinery engineer. This was on an old 6 throw Atlas Copco. Very reliable machine unfortunately the plant (hydrogen / ethylene) caught fire and was abandoned. Entire refinery eventually shut down and is now being scrapped.

The biggest that I have ever used was a 32mm on a Nissan hub nut. I have sockets for 34, 35, 36, and 38 that I have not used yet.

As far as wrenches I use 1 5/8 pretty often. Then the biggest socket I use is a 4 7/8 on axle nuts.

i was going to say about a 6inch on the rear hubs.

Holy ****. What kind of trucks use axle nuts that big? I had to buy a 4 7/8 socket for the front of a 4x4 International 7300 and I thought that was massive. It's the biggest I've seen anyway.

I'm retired now but worked for 35+ years in the aluminum industry as Machinist. Lots of custom machining but also a lot of maintenance and rigging. I specialized in rolling mills and changed work rolls and backup rolls. Most of my work was under 2'" but occasionally up to 4" sockets on 1" or 1 1/2" impacts. When we tore out some small mills I kept a few nuts that hold down the mill housing in the shoe tracks. They're about 4" hex nuts. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the face to mount swing arm lamps for home. If i remember tomorrow I'll post a photo.

I'm not sure of the size but it was a 4in impact that ran the socket. We were putting a reactor column together in a petrochem plant. @60 ft tall and 25-30ft round. bolted the impact to the center flanges and ran @400 bolts in that bastid. every thing ran off air raise and lower the impact with air. run it til it quit turnin then go to the next. Took about 3 days to get the top and bottom head installed.
