It's 16*-18* outside here now and about 52*-53* inside this morning. It was 55* when I walked out last night....

I don’t think a general answer means much because of variables that most people don’t consider.
In NC the freeze depth is probably not over a foot or 16”, so the slab should stay warmer than here, where the frost line is 42-48”.
I generally try to heat the garage to the upper 40s in the afternoon, and the thermal mass of the slab will keep the garage around 32 degrees for the next morning.
However, two things changed this year. First, we’ve had an unusually long and deep cold spell, with sub zero temperatures for several weeks, so the slab is getting colder than normal.
Second, I bought a compact tractor with a snow blower. It probably weighs four or five thousand pounds. When I park it inside, that mass is at, say, -10 degrees, so the slab will cool off much faster than before as the tractor stabilizes at room temperature and the residual snow melts.

Basement shop, 3 of 4 walls below grade. Walkout wall has one framed in (2x4 insulated) door and the other half is an insulated garage door with extra gasket where the door hits the framing.
-13F this morning, shop at 50F. Concrete returns on the front wall (completely above grade) have a nice frost layer. Think I'll stud those out and insulate next summer

Chicago outside air temperature right now is minus 9 with wind chill of -21. I just checked in the garage and air temperature is +30 with no heat running. It is an attached garage and well insulated. I don't plan to work in the garage today.

1 Deg outside and 54 in the shop. Bumps up to 63 automatically when the lights get turned on.
It was 0 when I came home outside and 44 inside after a day and half of not having afire going. Usually it's in the low 50 but this cold snap is cooling things down more than normal.

It's -15F out, and my garage is 30F with a heater on. It shares a ceiling and two walls with the rest of my house. My garage door is the original rotted out wooden door though so it's not appreciably better than the door being open. I hope my stuff in cabinets is a little warmer because the whole reason I've got the heater out there is to keep paint and glue from going bad.

Same here in NW IN.......my shop temp dropped to 29
Just have wall insulation and soffits on 1-1/2 sides of the garage, in addition to 6 foot vents
Turned on the 75K heater and in less than an hour the temps were 68

4 right now and about 50 in the garage I'm running the propane heater. I'm working in there today.
Nights have been about -10 lately and I haven't been running the heat at night. So it drops to about 20 or so inside
I just finished my insulation in the garage now, going to start wiring for my heaters in a bit, they are due to arrive tomorrow. After that I will probably keep it around 40-45 all the time when I am not in there and 50-55 when I am.

Seventy-eight degrees F in Coral Gables FL. Spent some time today cutting a table top 3/4" plywood & masonite for a 12" radial arm saw I got off CL.
I also hung a pic of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" that I had in a frame, above the garage OH door. Who doesn't like 1960's Rolling Stones? "Satanic Majesties' Request' and 'Let It Bleed' are two of my favorites.

Western Nebraska. 3* now been mostly single digit and below zero since before Christmas My shop is 3600 sq ft R25 walls and R40+ ceiling plumbed for radiant but not connected. 2” XPS insulation under slab. Currently 35* inside. Slab temp is 35* and just below slab insulation it is 52*. Has never been below freezing in 5 years Happy New Year!!

-3°F for a high today and non insulated, north facing garage was at 28°. My garage has not been much above freezing since this cold snap started.

A little cooler up there, eh? It was only -15 this morning here (Dayton), but -17 the two previous mornings. Have been doing some cabinet painting this weekend, so the inside temp has been kept in the 60's.

It’s 10° outside and it’s 65° in here, 26x36 shop insulated and 10 foot ceilings. I’m using a 10,000 watt king electric heater. Southeastern Pennsylvania.

- 14 here in Central Ill Wind chill -35 My shop is 30 x 40 its insulated pretty good. I heat it with a corn stove.......45 is as warm as I could get it today.

10 outside right now, 36 in the shop. No heat hooked up yet but the little radiant keroseen heater does ok. Will bring it up to about 50 after its on for about 3 hours. 30x48 with 12ft sidewalls and 17 ft peak, open span.

2 this morning-yep that's 2 degree's.....the big maxx heater is set for 40...waiting to see how long the lp lasts(100lb) tank...i will say that the garage will stay 15-18 degree's warmer than outdoor temp...at least it did last year ,i used a torpedo heater only while working in there,after 3 days of not using it -temp was 15 above outdoor
i was interested in it to see how the insulation job was working-it's 5/8 rock with r-38 in ceiling.. walls -two courses of 1 inch greenguard foamboard r-10,airsealed everything

that's awesome- i was gonna go with ductless unit but i'm cheap and needed heat more than a/c,also had concerns of heating capacity at low end of operating range-i was wrong i see

12* outside 49 inside the main shop area above 80* in the bathroom and around 70* in the office, I turned a fan on in the office to blow the heat out into the shop....heater refilled a few minutes ago...There's been a spike in wood usage in the past few days...Thank God I have a LOT of wood cut and split. At the present rate I have enough to last 2+ months.
I need to finally install truly automatic controls on the radiant heat now that I have the $$$ to do it. (15 years with a jerry rigged system)

Argh - the "Can-Am Garage" is un-insulated, and heated when I need to with a propane bullet. I did manage to get it up to about -3*C the other day after leaving the heater running for an hour or so. Yesterday, however, I had to change ATV tires (long story) and I ran out of propane (of course). No wind and a few halogen lights turned on meant I was able to do the job and survive to tell about it. "55f in the garage" is but a dream....Mrs Outlander (minister of finance) needs to make provisions in the 2018 budget.

I believe this to be true in other places, all of hell is freezing over not just parts of it
Worst part about this would be trying to convince the 'no such thing as global warming' conspiracy theorists they are not right. "Colder in Canada than the Antarctic" or "Mars"
does not make for quality garage time in my circumstances! Santa brought a radiant heater to go above my bench. That should help going forward, but it' to darn cold to install it

Ambient 19F (in Texas) inside the spray-foamed 30/40/14 it’s 47F .
Until the big Maxx gets here, I’m using 1500W cube heaters. I have three to run when I’m in the shop but left only ONE running last night. That foam stuff really works well.

My overall shop size is 50'x60'x16', using 2x6 construction. Our overnight temps here in northern Utah lately have been in the low 20's, we had a few days of high teens but for the most part have been hovering around the low 20's overnight and mid to upper 30's daytime highs.
When working in the shop I bump it to around 62 degrees and I turn my T-stat down to 50* when I close up for the day/night. It pretty much stays around that 51-53 degree range all night in the shop side that's heated which measures 40'x50'. The entire building is very well insulated but my RV storage bay side which measures 20'x50' seems to stay around 43-45 degrees.
The heater does a good job of getting up to my occupied setting rather quickly and the heater doesn't seem to run too awfully much once the desired temperature is reached either so I am curious to get my first gas bill here anytime as this is the first winter in the new shop.

We're hovering at around 6F for the last few days. I keep my garage at around 50F to keep my beer from freezing.
