What's your Toptul wish list?

I don't wish for any Toptul but I have to believe they're great for the money. It's real easy for me to encourage someone to only buy USA when I don't have a family to feed and I make union wages. So I'm done with that. I can't tell some guy starting out with a wife and kid making $15 an hour what to buy. I'll end this by quoting Merkava 4 who posted "Buy the best tools you can afford". It's so simple it's brilliant.

Concensus of opinion here is Toptul is a quality product at a reasonable price, equal to or better than Craftsman. Some even claim they approach tool truck quality. What if Toptul or some other Pacific Rim concern were to kick it up a few notches, use better materials, tighten up their specs, tolerances and quality control. If they were able to make a tool equal to Snap-on, ( Not just hearsay, actually tested & verified by experts), for less money, would anybody change their mind?

im not in this business to buy more tools...im in it to make money...toptul lets me do that...IMHO they are better than cman and do indeed border the truck brands...for the money im paying for toptul it is beyond what i expected and is excellent quality...i use this stuff every day at work in a chevy dealer

funny, the people who are super critical don't have the tool in their hands. I mean to not like a tool made in Taiwan is completely understandable to me. I get it.
But to not have the tool, and then make the comment that it is comparable to 'junk' from the pacific rim.....makes me think someone is insecure. Also I wonder if this person has the same attitude towards Shimano or Campy???
Just curious.

By the way, I think this forum and the members rock....even the super crtitical members.

Sincerely,

Do not be such a weak individual quote what you want to pick apart. Whet the fit tolerance is double that of a CM tool yes it is Pacific Rim junk. This is what they are know for when you only ask for a low price point.

Cheap Pacific Rim parts have yet again forced a recall for several major manufactures ( really contractors) of Bicycles again. http://www.bicycleretailer.com/news/59.html

Just wondering what will you do when a tool breaks that you really need?
Its not like the toptul truck will pull in next week and hand you a replacement.

Hiball, most of us are aware that our computers, clothes, and many other daily items are made ourseas...I don't just accept it and move on. If given a chance I will buy american made by american companies whenever I can. I am all for supporting america :fingersx: the imports.

I didnt ask you to accept it, Truth is that Sole american companies That build 100% American made items are few and far between. I too try and purchase american made Cars, (There not 100% american btw), and American made Items when i can along with supporting the small business man, Which in this case is Wren tools. To say :fawk:the imports isnt the right answer either for me. Hell my union paycheck is brought to me by servicing the likes of Toyota, Hyundai along with Ford and Gm, Chrysler. By your title "Trackwelder" im guessing your also in the Railroad bussiness. (could be wrong)

Just curious is your observations of Tolerance levels based on Toptul tools or your general opinion of Oversease tools and there price?

I feel like anytime Toptul or X brand is brought up to this board we simply cannot have a decent thread. Its always someone trying to stir up the subject to something else. How does a wish list turn into "I only buy American..." etc. If you don't have a wish list or anything that is relevant to the thread. Just leave it alone. Its nonstop bashing on any tool brands around here.

The correct phrase is Top Stool. As is steaming stool.

When Elroy reviewed

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36504

He found it as true entertainment.

There is more to a sockets performance than polished chrome. Note the tight fit of the Snappy.

Put those sockets in a torque test and watch that hot broached Snap-on demonstrate its true worth by kicking those other POS sockets ***.

Yep, Top-Stool needs to be flushed.

Then again that's just Elroy opinion. Your stool may have a different odor. :lol_hitti

At least it brings the ******** Buy American dudes out of the woodwork. I used to think I was the only one who thought like that. :D

I just miked a slew of my sockets.
The tightest were some cheap import stuff, No name, heavy stuff got them at a swap meet. You have to force the sockets on the drive with some muscle.
When your hands are greasy you can't get them off, just like some of my Snap-on.

The loosest were American made Matco. Downright sloppy.
This was of the five Matco sockets I tried. They are about 12 years old, but seldom used.

Craftsman was all over the map, some tied with Matco, some a tad looser, no consistency.
These are new ones.
My old ones from 1985 are very tight, even though they have been used a lot. These are the old anti-roll sockets.

TopTul were all about the same, allowing for old shaky hands.
Oh, yeah, my Snap-on were mostly out of round, but then they are older, from the 90's, been used a bit, so it wasn’t fair to compare them. Some were loose, some were tight. Been used by one of my buddies who is hard on tools, he’s the one keeps breaking my Craftsman sockets, ratchets. Still hasn’t broken a TopTul, but I have expectations.
He’s the kind of guy that doesn’t see the reason for using a 1 /2 ratchet when you can just yank harder on a 3/8.
He also breaks a lot of my Snap-on, but he gets it replaced when he does.

In response to the OP I'd like to use a Toptul socket to judge the feel, because I'm curious, before I'd ever buy. But I think what we have on this board is professional mechanics and do it yourselfers arguing about what's the best product. I think they each have different needs. Now we have Crapsman and Topstool being thrown around which may or may not be ironic. Buy what makes you feel good. If I ever feel good about buying Toptul I'll buy some. Don't wait up though.

+1

I am a precision mechanic tools must fit correctly no mater what country of origin they are from. My tool boxes have tools sourced from all over the world because of their high quality not country of origin. Sloppy fitting sockets are not only a danger to the fastener but to you the user too.

for the most part...the things ive purchased from toptul are sockets and wrenches...nothing i cant pick up at sears at WORST case scenario...

ive heard of truck brands coming in and NOT replaceing broken sockets and such saying they were abused... now what? your in the same boat...i could send it back to the manufacturer if mike doesnt replace

mike has openly said he would replace anything im not happy with...guess what...im still happy with everything

my wishlist is some of those dynamic stubby wrenches, they look very helpful. '

It might seem that way, and I agree this thread's gotten off point, but indulge me for a second. Guess I don't get out much, but I never heard of Toptul before I found this website. Before I start throwing down for more tools, I'd like as much info, pro or con, as I can get. Then I'll think about a wish list.

Is that comprehensive enough? I'm a toptul guy, was turned on to them when the less than stellar distributor was located very close to me in Charlotte. I now own over 1K in Toptul tools, and am getting ready to seriously expand. Just purchased some close-out inventory from another distributor that I knew of in the US, so Mike is the ONLY guy I will be dealing with from now on. Anyone that hasn't tried Toptul, don't knock it. I work with Snap-off every single day in class at UTI, and I MUCH prefer my Toptul stuff. In over 3 years of highly abusive use, all I've managed to do is break off a few ratchet selectors from abuse, and break collars off of some of the locking extensions, but I believe they have been redesigned now, so they shouldn't be as troublesome. As far as finish, I'm king of over-exerting my tools. Up until a few months ago, I owned all mirror finish Toptul stuff. I am here to tell you that it hasn't flaked at ALL, still is as shiny as day 1, and has showed no signs of cracking, even after a few of them having a meeting with the impact wrench. Now, judging by the mostly adult age range of this board, I'd think you pessimists could keep your negative opinions to your self, but apparently not. This tread was started in my belief to see what everyone was going to buy, not another import vs. domestic **** list. Do you actually believe that Snap-on makes all those tools? Maybe in the 80's but this is now. Imports can and are better than domestic, need I mention the name Toyota? The import vs. domestic battle has been raging since import cars first came, and it still goes to this day. So it isn't everyone's cup of tea, who cares? Shut up if you don't have something positive to say, and the world will be a much better place. Now, if you aren't posting to say what Toptul tools you wish to buy, I have a novel concept, don't post. /rant.
