Here's mine, it's an old Lista industrial piece sitting on top of two Equipto cabinets. I bought it second hand off CL in the dead of winter for a song, just after the contractor enclosed my shop. I'll admit I have never used it (yet!)....really didn't want to put any equipment in the shop until it was done, but could not pass up the deal.

I have had Sears prefab benches and homemade ones before, but this is the nicest one I have owned. Very heavy duty.

If you look close you will see the bench's legs are not even touching the floor. I'm probably going to put casters on the Equiptos and use them somewhere else.

Gotta say the Equipto stuff...though maybe lesser known than Vidmar, Lyon, Lista and so on, seems very comparable to the others. Super stout...good quality, will last a lifetime.

I also picked up a Starrett surface place from the same guy/same day...it's on the right side of the bench in the cardboard box, can't really see it.

Scored a pair of free 30" kitchen cabinets yesterday from someone at work that I'm going to use in the base of my bench. Gotta swing by the habitat for humanity store to find some solid wood doors to use as a bench top, and then pick up some 2x4's to make up the rest.

My new bench, craigslist score for 20 bucks!

I'd freshen it up with a new coat of satin black. I picked up a quart at WallyWorld for mine. It covered fantastic with one coat and a small foam roller. I think the color was called Black Licorice.

Looks nice! Now you just need to get some insulation and sheeting up and you're set :) I bet that helper on the left would love to give you a hand with it. (I'm assuming that's your kid, so sorry if it isn't. I have a four year old who would rather be in the garage with me than eat supper :bounce:)

Thank you!

He's the same way as yours....His brother, not as much.

But the insulation and paneling is all set:

I am changing from one project of rebuilding a 1991 Force outboard to redoing the garage. I am going thru this forum and getting a ton of ideas. Thanks for all the ideas. Alot of interesting ideas.

Is there a section in here on remodling you garage? I could start a thread in it to map progress and post questions on how to go about things.

I had my bench all cleaned up to take a pic for here. It didn't happen. So here is a pic of bench with my new Springfield Armory M1A rifle on it.

Here's mine, it's kind of a pig...I'm not really very proud of it, yet. But I built it, it's sturdy, tough and was very inexpensive. I use it for everything from fixing my girls toys to maintaining yard equipment, to building dirtbike and auto engines.
I need to find a solution to the top surface and want peg or slat board for the wall for some small shelves and to hang minor trinkets on.
I'll get the mess on the tool box cleaned up one day and shoot a pic of it all together. I really love GJ and all the creativity everyone has.

Not totally finished yet. Still need to mount lights and get the hooks on the wall for some tools. The florescent lighting had to be removed until the paint is completed but should be back in place by the weekend.

Along with a "before" shot and a work in progress shot showing the overhead cabinets and placement for the HF rollers which will get two additional Craftsman boxes mounted about it.

1/8" tempered Masonite makes a great bench surface. it's cheap and available at any lumber yard or box store. just use screws tightened enough that the heads don't stick up; when it's getting to be in bad shape just remove it and install a new sheet. VOILA!!! new work bench.

Get some 1/8" tempered hardboard, like this:
http://www.homedepot.com/Lumber-Composites-Engineered-Wood-Products/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbtnf/R-202046928/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

Screw it down with some small screws to hold it in place. It gives a much more finished look.

When the top gets worn out/destroyed, you just unscrew it and screw a new piece on.

fascinating wall framing...

If you are interested in this style of construction, there are a number of simular builds on this board. Do a search for "GeoBarns". Several of our members have had them built and they all seem very hapy with the results.

I have never seen a wall framed like yours are done.
What is the intent with the diagonal "studs"?
I can imagine it would be a real brain-teaser to try to hang something on them after they were sheathed.

Edit: Saw your response to this after I typed this.

Its all about this,,, Every time I can clear something out its like adding an addition to work space. A shed or lean to world be a good place to start. Even after a long time I am going to go back and remodel a catch-all corner, move a couple things out and figure out different shelves, etc. I had it in the back of my mind to build another loft, mezzanine to take advantage of wasted volume and get some more stuff I am not using regular out of the way.
I am going to take a trailer deck or ideally a section of mobile home frame, add it to the building with a couple posts, plank it off, about 8x20 or so, put shelves in L shape all around the corner. I would have done this already but ran out of materials, used most of the beam I had on last projects.

Thanks, I bought the utility sink from Lowes, it comes with legs I ditched them and flush mounted it in the bench. The lip around the sink is sturdy enough to support the weight.
