I had plans to do something like this for the heavy stuff. I like it could go anywhere.

I really like this setup. My workspace at a former job was very much like this one. I used one side for the thing I was working on, (prototype food service equipment), the other side for tools. Had a rolling stool between the benches.

lilscorpion and vtwin650,

The rolling drawer and the slide out panel have proven to be very handy for the type of project I work on. Below are more pictures/features of my workbench incase they spark anymore ideas for you guys.

Always_Thinkin - these are some really neat ideas. I rally like how everything completely tucks away in a completely optimized way nice and compact. It would be awesome if my shop cart could tuck away like that.

A slide out trash can would make sweeping off the counter easy and keep it tucked out of the way otherwise. I even have one in my kitchen and still never occurred to me to do the same in the shop.

I also like this bench end. I'd really like to have something like this for soldering, filing, and other small work. Slick.

Wow. There are a lot of real nice workbenches shown here. Mine's nothing to write home about but I thought what the heck, I'll post a pic of mine. I built this back in the late '70's or early '80's. I originally had it in my garage but moved it to my shop in '89. The main frame is 4x4's for the legs and 2x6's for the rest of the frame and the top. I covered the top with hardboard screwed down using countersunk washers to dress it up a little. I covered the outside of the bench with wood paneling. It has 2 sliding doors and 3 drawers. Bench is 6' long and 22" deep. I plan to remove all the junk off the peg board and paint it an off-white or light gray. After I do that I'll sort out what gets put back on the board and what goes. Also I attached a pic of my "portable workbench". I use this for things that are too long to work on my regular workbench. I put it outside so it's in natural light. Very easy on the eyes!

Very nice workshop. How do you clean the floor tiles when working on wood projects? Do they create a problem when sweeping?

Thanks!! I virtually never sweep. I have a pretty extensive dust collection system. What the DC doesn't catch I just blow out the doors.:D I have a 5hp 80 gal compressor in a separate room off the back of the shop.

The only issue that I have had with the tiles is static electricity build up. They are great on the knees and back but will cause a zap occasionally.

HeyTerryH, use to see you on Woodnet all the time. Still doing the insurance gig? Have always loved your shop and it's been an inspiration. My problem is that I have a wood shop in the basement and car stuff in the garage so I almost need duplicate pieces of machinery like the drill press and hand tools.

Hey Steve!! Yes, still still doing the insurance deal and pastoring an apartment church as well. I don't seem to have much time for woodworking any more even though I continue to buy tools and work on the shop of course. :dunno: :D

Got rid of the old setup I posted above. The half shelf/kitchen cabinet wasn't cutting it anymore. Now I just need to find a quality vise and I'll be happy...for a few days. Picked this bench up at Sam's club after reading favorable reviews about it on this site.

Just built this the other day, still trying to decide what I want to do for the top :headscrat

I don't have a brake to fold some aluminum over the top.

A nice alternative to a metal top is formica. Nice smooth surface ,easy to clean, easy to install with minimal tools, and somewhat durable.

Good Idea, I didn'it think about this, I'll look into it and probably go this route.

Thanks :rocker:

Here's the progress on mine. The blue top is only temporary. Will be 2 or 3 layers of 3/4"oak laminate or similar. Also currently installing the mount and outlets for the flat screen that will be in the middle.

If you get the measurements any machine shop or HVAC shop can bend it up for you for a few dollars more.

I have the craftsman bench with the drawer units and a 72 inch steel top,Im thinking about chunking the drawer units and mounting it to this box, take the wheels off ,take some height off it,http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200581343_200581343

Ive allready ordered the side box and going to put it on the side on the steel top,Im liking the blue better than the old style red,red fades and looks orange to me,http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200585687_200585687
