I'm looking for feedback on what everyone is using. Steelman and LTI seem to have what I'm looking for. I work on all makes/models so a large variety is what I need. Thanks

i was looking at the Steelman sometime ago and saw some people in reviews saying the sockets didnt fit on all locking log nuts bc there where to big and they didnt have the right key for all locks. like McGard and gorilla.

Thanks for your feedback man. I was looking around and saw that SK has a nice set too. It looks like a Bolt Extractor.

a set of old worn out 12 point sockets has always worked for me, Beat on on with a 5lb sledge and zip them off,

Before I bought the Steelman kit, I would use a 12 point with two or three hardened steel pins stuck up inside. Kinda of a PITA to keep them spaced when placing the socket, but worked great. And now that I've bought the Steelman kit..........I still use 2 or 3 pins stuck up inside a 12 point socket.

Steelman is the brand of tools that all Walmart Tire And Lube departments use. The wheel lock remover kit they use rarely works. Much easier to tell the customer to go to a certified mechanic to get their locks off or find their key.

I tried telling everyone that steel man kit doesn't cover what we see today. But everyone jumped down my throat and told me I'm wrong. 95% of the lock we see today are McGard style, which it doesn't cover

I have the Irwin/Hanson set (it wasn't cheap) and haven't had to use it on a wheel lock... yet. I own them as a "just in case" tool for my home garage since I have wheel locks on my cars. They're nicely built, high carbon steel and made in USA.

Amazon link.

Are you guys talking about removal with the ability to destroy them and not get in trouble? If so the double ended removal sockets that I think craftsman used to offer would cover most of them.

If not, then I am no help.

I wonder how these would work?

These are what I was originally talking about, not sure who made the ones I have, but these are very similar.

I have that same kit. Right now its batting about 50% success rate. Used maybe eight or ten times.....

its called a set of SAE 12pt sockets and a hammer.. i had a wheel lock stuck in one of my old craftsman sockets for almost 20 years.. took a torch and aot of hammering to get it out - and that socket STILL did not break..

i just cut the socket down the middle and the lug nut comes out (doesnt take long). socket isnt good anyone anyways bc its deformed but the lug nut is still useable. just some slight scuff marks on the sides.

I would give my right arm for a master set of McGuard. I hate digging through peoples **** to find the lock tool.

I've been working in extremely busy tire/automotive service shops for over 13 years and I have removed hundreds of wheel locks. 99% of this I have done with both the customers permission and undertanding that the locks are not usable again if they find the key. We usually use a double sided flip socket with reverse spiral flutes hammered on using an old 1/2 extension. Most sets of these include 2 to 5 flip sockets. There are Blue Point, Craftsman, Irwin/Hanson and many others. Even the 2 piece sets cover a large majority of wheel locks. Its only when the lug is recessed far down into the wheel that the real problems begin. With good to moderate access I can usually have a set of wheel locks off in just a few minutes.

The fun ones I have encountered lately are the O.E. locks on newer Dodge Ram 1500's. As soon as you try to hammer a socket on an outer collar breaks loose and just spins freely (think the spinning collar on Snap On KRL Locks).

Also there is a Steelman set that does have some value though. They make a set that includes every type of spline, hex, square and misc specialty lug key known, These are not for real wheel locks but for all the specialty aftermarket lugs out there and will save you digging through someones stuff.

I have the dynomec set and it works great I have not come across one it will not pull off in the set you have consumable bits that take the shape of the nut and you have reusable bits that cut in to the outside of the nut and it depends on the type you have to remove over hear the aa and the rac use them 212cdcbed772834d8036afb069c1721c.jpg
You can also get a bit of kit called the lug ripper from hear

My buddy has the SO set and it's okay. Took off two locks and was useless after that. needed to be swapped out. Took the other two off and it's still has some life left.
