Progress is cool. I apologize for my next remark if it's offensive, it's not meant that way. Time to break out the hi-hp off-road wheel chair and hit that pile of dirt. Pardon my ignorance, do they make such thing? Again, my apologies if I've offended you.

Got the footings poured today and thankfully the rain held off. Hope to have the backfill and walls done next week.

What is the local frost depth where you are located? Here in my area of NY we are at 42" to top of footing. Just curious how deep are these footings, they may be several feet deep? Surely there is more concrete below the 2x4 form boards?

Its the same here I believe. And the footings are close but mostly below 42". I just checked. Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't know good from bad, so sorry I'm no help.

This is me also

but are you talking about the rough looking spots?

Will this be below or above grade?

And are you gonna waterproof the cement walls?

Sorry for my novice questions but if I'm gonna give a novice non expert answer I need some more info to bluff my answer through.

Off the hip I'd quick patch over and let it go. If below grade also waterproof that area as well heck even if above grade.

But I have about 5% cement working knowledge.

Good luck and great place you have

Ditto.

That said, I would imagine that inconsistent part of the concrete just didn't cure at the same rate for some reason. I would imagine (I have an active imagination) that any problems could be relatively easily fixed by patching, sealing etc. now, before the fill goes back in.

You have what in the trade is called honeycomb. I have seen a lot worse. Your concrete contractor should know how to patch it. It does not look big enough to be a structural problem. but if it goes deep enough it might let moisture in to compromise your reinforcement. A good patch should cure that problem.

Thanks Mike. I'll see what they'll do but they sprayed sealer over it already.:eyecrazy:

Got the drain tile in this morning and the stone on top of it. The truck in the picture can sling stone 80 feet (~24m) from the back of the truck :3gears: all remote control! This is an impressive piece of equipment!

I wonder if the guy running the remote has ever put himself in the line of fire?

neat looking at that stuff flying through the air to land just where you want it.

Did he hit the hole on the first shot or did he have to walk it in a little?

he was amazingly accurate! However not all little stones have the same mass so some landed on the deck and even on the shin of my son :lol_hitti

He did start at the area closes to the truck though so he obviously has done this several times!

The first wall is going up today! The floor is poured in the crawl space under the new floor and the new front porch is almost done. No steps anywhere will be amazing!!:shocking:

Trusses are going up today -- -wow that was fast!! It is starting to take shape and my wife is getting a better picture of what this will look like. Thankfully she likes it and is ready to "go pick out colors" which is her gift and NOT mine!

Wow .. lots of progress. looking good.

thanks... it is getting very real now for sure. The builder even got some pics of the crane setting the trusses.

I'm wondering though.... is too late to put a window in the upstairs of the loft over the garage?:dunno: or maybe I don't want one there. I just think it would be nice to let a little natural light in.

Natural light is always good. You can't tint or frost it if you are concerned about privacy. It shouldn't be too late to add it.

I talked to the builder and they are going to use the old window from the bathroom to put up there... sound like an OK idea? Should I refirb anything on the window before it goes in? Its on my time since it was not in the plan...

the roof is going on today and doing the whole house...

I asked about having them replace some of the plywood/chip board that is dark from getting wet over they years. I also had an ice dam a few years ago where water got into the house. They seemed a little apprehensive to replace these. Should I insist?

They replaced the previously wet roof boards and charged me $100. Since I can't get on the roof by myself I guess that's a good deal!

Tile inside is about 3 months behind so everything is piled up in the garage including 3 skids of tile on the trailer, tile tools and the washer and dryer!! So... not much happening in the garage other than a little painting. Hope to have that done within the next week along with the tile so I can start doing something out there!!

Thanks for the update, we hate it when threads just disappear.

Me too! I am beginning to think that this project will ever finish! We are stuck in the back of the house and cannot come out until the grout is set on Saturday. {please send food}:lol_hitti

We had quite the crew yesterday. However my tile guy isnt going to be done before Christmas. And he wants to take a vacation so I'm thinking he wont be starting again until after New Years. And... we still have to carpet 4 rooms!
