When hanging drywall... horizontal or vertical on walls?

Much easier to tape and finish with the rip in the middle. Tapered edges are nice but by no means are **** joints an obstacle to a pro finisher. I remember years ago when tapered edges were a new idea.
Pretty much every trim carpenter hates a tapered edge at the floor. Some finishers will float the bottom taper so the wall will be flat.

That is why you don't see 2 1/2" baseboards any more, 4 and 5" are popular.

Good thread, was contemplating this question too. Anyone regret doing the drywall themselves instead of hiring a contractor? I'm on the fence.

I would do the boarding.

I would tape if it was just going to be fire taping.

I would hire a taper if I was going beyond fire taping. Finish taping is hard to do to get it to look right. If you are like most people you do not have a many projects that make it worthwhile to build the skills.
