The Hot Women thread was removed so I posted a thread asking what happened to it. That thread was removed as well. Can't ask a question I guess. Funny this was one of the most viewed threads ever.........

I sneaked a peak at the Hot Women thread (or sometimes no thread) now and then, but it just got out of control. Plenty of other websites provide that content.

Precious few websites provide the quality and quantity of information for the professional or serious hobbyist mechanic, tool junkie/polisher, shop builder/user, welder, machinist, metal fabricator, etc.

Heck, Garage Journal is a living, breathing encyclopedia of knowledge, experience and creativity. Let's appreciate what we have, and not leave trash all over the place.

Maybe a "Warm Woman" thread would be more appropriate and less subject to ****** and other content that can lead to trouble :)

I never had any use for "off topic" threads or folders in forums. Wanna talk politics, find a political discussion forum. Wanna talk your pet, find a pet forum.

To each his own. Personally I prefer to hang out on a forum that has that comfortable feeling of being "home" like your favorite bar or sitting around a campfire with good friends. A place where you can discuss just about anything without the worry of being "politically correct" or the fear of offending someone with thin skin. Naturally everyone has the option of skipping past subjects they have no interest in but a place where the rigid "carved in stone" rules we all have to deal with in our workplace don't exist. To put it into plain words, a place you can kick your shoes off and be yourself. The "real" world has way too many rules as it is. The forums I hang out on regularly (and consider contributing to) are the ones where I can put the rules out of mind for awhile.

Whenever a thread gets deleted, someone assumes it's about "political correctness" or "thin skin."

Flawed assumption.

Clearly not a description of this site.

I agree. While the Hot Women thread was not THE reason I like to hang out here, it was A reason. Kinda like hanging out with friends and shooting the bull. Sometimes when guys hang out, they discuss women. Just part of life.

If it gets too serious, it gets to be no fun, and not worth going. This isn't Wikipedia.

A mod didn't appreciate the fact that people repeatedly ignored his reminders not to post ******. So,the thread died.

Then don't click on them. Do you watch television shows that don't interest you or do you change the channel? Or do you call the station and complain that they shouldn't be on the air because you don't like them?

Instead of deleting a thread that a lot of members enjoyed, the offenders should have been suspended or banned. Classic case of punishing everyone because of the actions of a few.

Didn't even think there was one here. However, I believe it's okay to have those type of thread because this forum does not appear to be a "professional" environment anyways. There are a lot of mature adults but it's a non-professional environment.

If moderation capacity is a concern, bc those things can get out of hand, I guess it's a good idea to just cut it off.

Well, that's not what happened. So, what are you going to do? Ask for your membership dues back? Dock our pay?

Anyway, these public threads about "where did it go?" and retaliatory threads about changing socks don't do anything. If someone wants to have a meaningful dialogue, then PM the mod who deleted the thread.

It's simple people. That action teaches self-moderation.

If we all know a good thread will get axed if someone gets out of line, we will all jump on whomever broke the rules to fix it fast. That way the mods won't have to remove the thread. It's self-correcting.

When I played sports, if a player was late, or missing something, we all ran laps. This made us all make sure we were all on time and had all our gear. And we were late less, and showed up prepared.

Learn from it, move on. There's tons of women pics all over the web. Try Google.

Sorry Bull I mean no offense to you. Personally I think you do a fine job as a moderator. I cannot say the same for others. And I suspect on some level you agree with me.

Well, in this case the mod in question posted in the thread more than once, reminding people not to post stuff that isn't allowed here i.e. "nips and lips," so to speak. He then made a final post before closing the thread. That sat there a while until he deleted the thread.

So, if people loved the thread so much and were in it all the time, did no one even bother to notice the mod asking for cooperation? Everyone was blinded by *****?

I guess we all should have gone to the ONE offenders house & made him stop ? The comparison to making the entire team run laps when 1 player is late is lame. The difference is we are not children. Punishing the person responsible for poor behavior is how adults do things. What amazes me the most is that this concept needs to be explained at all...

One offender?

You really weren't paying attention in there.

My apologies. I didn't pay that much attention to that particular thread. My comments were more towards other dissapearing threads and the practise of punishing the entire "class" because of the bad behavior of a few. I stand by my opinion that it's not the proper way to treat adults. For the record you seem to be one of the more level headed mods around here and your efforts are appreciated. Have a great day.

As I mentioned in my PM just a few seconds ago, I take back what I wrote in my reply directly above your most recent post. The olive branch has been extended.

So the bottom line is that a mod was too lazy to delete what *he* thought was offensive, instead deleted the entire thread, effectively depriving and punishing the entire member list? That's a mod who would no longer be a mod were this my forum. :headscrat Doing that (I'll not get into the "personal, he didn't like it" issue) shows a serious lack of maturity on the part of someone who's supposed to be a leader. Instead he simply hurts everyone instead of doing the right thing. That's sad, very sad.

Garage Journal will not survive by driving away members to other forums.

Language is interesting. We all pick and choose the words that create our realities. "Lazy" would not be my choice to describe the mod's actions. "Fed up" might work. I'm not sure, because the only person who could pick the appropriate word is that mod.

I also didn't see that mod use the word "offensive" to explain the problem with the content he was deleting. Ryan doesn't want **** here. So, if a mod deletes pictures of ****, he's doing it because it isn't allowed here. I doubt this mod is "offended" by naked women.

Talking about lack of maturity, how stuff is sad etc. etc. sounds a bit inflammatory. But you know what, I'm not the mod in question. I really only delete the utter garbage here, and that which violates our rules. I wasn't "on point" in that Hot Women thread and wasn't keeping tabs on it. I like my hot women pics to have fewer clothes involved than what that thread could generate. I get involved in these discussions when people cast an ocean-wide net to catch one fish by talking about the moderation here.

This whole stink is just a stale fart in a stiff breeze. You won't even be able to smell it soon.

Might I respectfully ask while we have the attention of one of the more level headed mods if you could arrange for the "mod gone wild" to pop in and explain himself ? It's not fair to you to have to try to figure out why someone else is running around like a madman lately deleting everything in sight. To use your own words if a mod deletes pictures of **** it's because it's not allowed here. I am guessing that 99% of us agree totally with that rule. The problem is he didn't just delete a few offensive pictures. He trashed the entire thread. There have been several other threads dissapearing here over the last few days. Some justifiably so and others not so much. From reading these posts there are alot of members who are getting pretty frustrated with this. Meanwhile the guy stays in the shadows and you have to try to guess what his motives are. A simple "it was me and this is why" post would be nice....

If I were to mod the forum, I wouldn't make the threads disappear, just lock it. There are times when you have to make the thread disappear but not like some of it I have heard and experienced. It's just not the norm.

But hey, it's their forum, not the people's.

I really don't care that it was deleted.

I think the perceived lack of communication/explanation is what's upsetting people. Might I suggest that the (closed) thread title remains with a single post explaining the deletion?

It is also quite possible that Ryan decided it was time to start his
"cleaning" which he has stated will be done. It may not have been a mod but the big guy himself.

Jeez, how many times does a thread have to be that close to the ax before the ax falls? How many times does the membership have to debate the issue? So much patience has been exhibited here by the admin and the mods. I clicked on the HW thread when I saw it, I didn't go looking for it. And I won't miss it.

In agreement that a PITA is a PITA and be done with it.

Thanks for the work the mods and admins do.

It was deleted.

Glad to see it gone.... When 12-14 year olds views this forum, they and their parents are going to look at Garage Journal as an interesting and educational site..... At a glance, that HW thread title gave the impression of Garage Journal as being one of those "trash sites"..... There is enough of that **** on the internet... Again, Thanks For the Housecleaning.
