Which air sander?

Just picked up a 60 gallon Puma 3hp that outputs 12cfm @ 90psi. Looking for a good palm sander for automotive finishing. I had a Griot's garage electric DA sander and I hated using the thing due to the size and weight...I need to be able to use it one-handed.

I've been looking into the Dynabrade 3/16" orbital sanders but am overwhelmed by the vast amount of models they have. Are there any other recommended brands that I should be looking at? Specific models?

Btw I rarely do filler work but I have a electric ridgid orbital sander for that purpose.

Just be mindful of the required CFM. Hutchins is a high quality unit and they have at least one below 10 CFM @ 90 lbs. One handed too.

Dynabrade is light years ahead of Hutchins in quality, IMHO. You may only be able to use either on a limited amount of time, due to CFM and compressor capacity. Bill

I have a Sioux and it's bulletproof. However pneumatic DA's are huge consumers of CFM AND at high duty cycles.

I usually opt for electric. (less noise, less power and usually more conveniant)

Hutchins are the Rolls Royce of sanders.

I own a Hutchins and 2 Dynabrades, the hutch is overkill for most. The DB's are light and a great universal sander. If you're only buying 1 the 3/16 (fairly aggressive) is probably the best fit.

I've had an IR DA for about 16 years, no complaints, no issues... although I did change the pad when the first one wore out.
