Which Garage Door?

I am looking at a new garage door for my house. What is on there now is a builder-grade, paper-back Wayne Dalton. I am having trouble with the Wayne Dalton spring set up as well as the paper back starting to peel and look awful. I am thinking that a new door is probably the way I need to go.

I just put up a used Clopay (insulated and metal-backed) on my shop build. I had him quote one to match it as well as one he recommended. I hope you can help me make an informed decision.

My garage needs a 16'X7' door. I insisted on having an insulated door and metal-backed.

Wayne Dalton 16'x7' 8300 model - $1150 installed

Clopay 16'x7' 9200 model - $1380 installed

I am leaning towards the Clopay since I already have one in my shop and the R rating is higher. Also the fact I could use the Green Hinges if needed at a future date. Also if I ever break a hinge or something there are parts available pretty much anywhere but the Wayne Dalton stuff isn't.

Are there any other brands I need to investigate and have him quote?

I have a total of 4 Clopay doors, 2 on one garage done about 3 years ago. The remaining 2 doors just installed on a new build. Clopay was the best that I looked at for features and also the installer was second to none. The installer was working on some doors in the neighbourhood checked the install quality and found this is all he did for a living. He didn't even dabble in Clopay!s other man door installations. Anyone that could make a decent living on installing one brand of garage doors and work for both of the local non lumberyard door suppliers helped me make up my mind. Remember the installer is an important part of the equation!

All this installer does is residential garage doors. I was very impressed with him when he came to quote my door and he has very good references. I would like him to install but I just don't know exactly what I want him to install. I am happy with the Clopay I have on my shop though.

Wayne Dalton has a massive distribution center and sort of factory here locally. Yet Raynor is the more commonly sold and supported hurricane rated garage door here on the gulf coast. I'm very happy with the Raynor insulated and wind load rated. Rock solid and smooth. Not sure what rating you need or what is available in your location. Choices are fairly limited here due to wind load requirements.

I work for the parent company of Amarr and could have received a substantial employee discount - buy decided on Haas for a 8x20, 8x10 and two 14x12's.

Smart man. I have been installing doors for 30+ years now. I have seen almost everything ever manufactured and Haas beats them all.

OP if its wind load you are concerned about there is no manufacturer that uses better struts than Haas.

I had never heard of Haas so used their dealer lookup. There are no Haas dealers in WA/OR so they aren't represented in all states. Too bad, looks like a good door.
