Which jump starter do you choose?

If you have two car jump starters: One is large, the peak current is 1700A; The other volume is small, easy to carry, the peak current is 400A. For you, which one you prefer to choose a large current or a portable jump starter?

My JNC950 stay at the shop cause I have personal road side service “my co-worker” who will hand deliver it and I would of course do the same for him in a pinch. Not that I’d need it as I have a fresh battery. When I carried one for work it would be the bigger one. For personal use I kept the small one from sear in the car and the big one at Shop. It’s since died and I have yet to repair its just not a true priority.

When I travel I carry cables as well, esp in the winter.
Of course it’s better to provide help then need it...

I carry the noco genius gb150, which is 4000a. It isn't huge, and not heavy.

For atv/utv's I keep a much smaller "stark power" Li ion box. Fits in glove box.

May be a stupid question but why can't tool manufacturers make an adapter from a 18v battery to a jumper connection?

Borrowed a coworkers today, worked fine.

A twin pack Milwaukee M18 charger / jump pack combo has been on my suggestion list for a long time now.. some people said it would be impossible, but obviously this isn't true.

One word - the "peak" amperage rating is all marketing bs. Actual amperage is about half that number on the bigger jump packs.

NOCO GB150. Lithum battery technology lets it be small, AND have a high current capacity.

I haven't had it long, but it spins a 466 tractor diesel with totally dead batteries exactly as well as it spins with batteries in good repair.

For shop use the JNC is a no brainer with the built in charger. I've got the solar booster pac 5000 which has performed well. It does not have a built in charger (which adds bulk) and could be charged by the 12V outlet in my truck. It has a slim profile and would fit behind my rear truck seat. It has the same size battery as the JNC660 (22ah)that is well regarded here.

As far as jump packs with AGM batteries, the size of the battery and the size/quality of the wire and clamps are going to be the prime things I'm going to look for.

I recently purchased the noco GB 150. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but the youtube videos of it starting a 7.3 with no batteries was pretty impressive. But they are expensive, with pricing usually at $299.00 Best price I found was on amazon using a price alert from camelcamelcamel.com. I think I paid $240 Another option is to buy online from northern tool with a $50 coupon if you have one. Here's the video:

ETA: another reason I went for the lithium jump packs is the reduced frequency of charging required. NOCO claims 75% charge retention after one year. The AGM packs usually recommend a charge every 30 days. That's not an issue with a shop pack, but I really don't want to have to remember to drag it out of my truck and charge it every so often.

The Jnc 950 has and automatic float charger so I just never unplug it. I don’t think it been unplugged for more then 3-4 days in 8 years now.

I’d be interested in some long term feed back on the Noco gb150. Def keep us posted...

JNC 660. On my second one in 18 years, but it stays in the shop.
Keep a HF one with air compressor and inverter in my daily commuter car.
It's not as strong, but does ok.

We haven't had good luck with JNC at work. Might have gotten two turds. :dunno: We use the SOLAR ES5000 and it has never let us down. Recently got the one of the NORCO units after watching scanner danner praise it. I really like the NORCO unit. It's small but, powerful enough for my fleet use.

I carry the smaller JNC300XL in my 6 cylinder vehicles and the JNC660 in my 8 cylinder.

I use a group 35 car battery and made 4ft 1/0 awg jumper cables with parrot clamps. I’ve had jump boxes before and honestly between them no longer charging, not being serviceable, and outright making life impossible cause the 6ga clamps pop off these “new car” terminals and start dancing/sparking... i had enough. Since im a costco member, Interstate battery with no questions asked warranty and deltran trickle charger once a week.... i think im happy lol
