Is this Big Uggly for $15 any good? My current one is vinyl covered and doesn't absorb oil or water and is easy to wipe clean. This one is made of foam.

Clip it onto the back of a shop apron? I honestly just use those floor pads HF sells. Two of them on top of each other are pretty cushy and if you need to lay down you just hook them together. We do have a SnapOn one also but being half the size it doesn't get used as much.

I went to a local foam shop and bought two 24 inch square pieces of closed cell foam. The foam is 3 inches thick and 4 inches thick. I am a heavy person and this closed cell foam works really well for me.
I may, at some time in the future, cover the pads with vinyl.

I have another closed cell foam kneeling pad in blue vinyl. A short piece of seatbelt and male clasp is sewn into the cover. A female clasp is fastened to my toolbox and this combination holds the cushion.

I like the "slick" surface ones. Check HD or Lowe's garden area. I use two, one for each knee, easier to move around while still protecting your knees.

Ergokneel. I have the handymat II, as I recall, and it is phenomenal. They also make pads that slip into the double knee work pants like carhartts. The stuff isn’t cheap, but it works great and has lasted me forever!

Find an old weight lifters bench and take the seat (cushion) from that. used them for years and they're free if you see one tossed in the garbage.

I've used an old boat cushion for years, and it works well for me.

Same here. Kept the throw cushions when I sold my boat and I think they make the best kneeling pads around. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I ever wear these out.

I use the Harbor Freight Folding Mechanic's Pad. I have been using one for years and it is starting to wear through on the edges. I will buy another one.

I will second this one. I have three or four of them from the Garden Center :)

A lot of it is personal feel too. I cant imagine using a boat cushion for instance, way too cushy and thick.

HF mats are cheap and work OK, using them doubled is better. If I am up and down and moving around a lot I will opt for old style knee pads.

I have problems with my knees and found the slick 3/4" gardeners pads weren't working so well. I got a CLC kneeling pad (about 1" thick) which is a little denser and works really well for me. It doesn't have a slick surface though.

I have one of the best if not the best kneeling mat. It's triple layered. With the softer smoother foam (think yoga mat goodness) on top and bottom and structurally stiffer foam in the middle. and it's also roughly 16x38, because you know you'll need both knees on the ground and need to move around a bit, and nothing is more annoying that having to get up and readjust alittle knee pad.

It's the Snap-on Creeper pad. And they are as expensive as they are awesome. they only sell them in 5packs of course. We should figure out a way to buy and pack between us all.

They are extremely rare to find in the wild. I've had several alerts set up on ebay for many years. Only just now is there one on Ebay for $60.

Thank God someone else mentioned a tool truck brand I thought I was crazy! I chose the Mac ones instead because they were cheaper. They also only sell in 5 packs for the larger ones. I use it for a stationary creeper when needed. I also have the smaller version for when I set up the lift. Super comfortable and supportive, chemical resistant and not bulky

I have up on those foam pads and kneepads as well.
Every time they toss out an office chair, I grab the seat and back cushions and toss them in the back of my service truck.

I used to have as my second go-to knee pad, a BMW center consul lid. It was free at the local BMW recycler. A jerk who called me his friend took the BMW pad. I saw his sneak it out of the shop on his last visit. I hope he likes *** and travel. He ended out 40 year friendship with that move.
BMW 7 series have been a good go-to source for resto-rod parts.

I had some spectacular memory foam that was 2 inches thick from a well packed RAID controller that cost nearly $10,000 and used that for years. I never found anything equal to it.

Then I used the Snap-on smaller knee pad. I have that and the creeper mat you mentioned. They are spectacular.

Hard to find though.

A piece of cardboard? A carpet scrap? Really, it's not an engineered piece. Anything more than .5-1in messes with your body's geometry. Really thick, dense padding lifts you up instead of just proving cushion. This changes your leverage, which adds stress to other parts that can't adjust as well, like your hips and back. All you need to do is top the pain from pressure on your skin. If you are on your knees all day for a living (carpet/flooring installer), then you go for really good, purpose-built knee pads, not "kneeling pads". I've spent the last 35 years working on concrete, stones, asphalt, dirt, whatever, and the best for constant up-and-down is just something simple to cushion my knees. The last thing I bought was a foam mat that you would find on the floor in front of your kitchen sink.

Edit- I guess I should clarify- "kneeling pads" are consumables in my world. Therefore, the "best" is whatever is handy.

Three quarter or one inch Armorflex closed cell insulation glued to a piece of 3/4" plywood. Mine were made in 1988, still work well.

really, y'all are over thinking this knee pad subject. Any knee pad is far better than no knee pad. Especially, the older you get. Even a piece of corrugated cardboard is a lifesaver over nothing.

I buy every snap on kneeling pad at auctions i can find. They also are branded cornwell and matco. Best i have used but expensive to buy new. Currently have about 6. Cornwells are much cheaper new the last time I checked. I also have used many other pads, cushions and foam and most work fine. I won't kneel without one so i have them in both trucks and around the house and both shops. Also have spares for my spares:lol_hittii

I use an old seat bottom foam out of a new beetle, it was free and every comfortable.... that being said the snap on foam ones are really nice, I'm just too cheap to buy one

Menards had that same wheeled kneeler on sale a few weeks ago. I passed...looks like it’s difficult for us old guys to balance on.

I use a 2” thick piece of black, resilient foam some random guy was selling at the Iola swap meet. It cost about $5.00, but he had nice ones cut with a water jet for a few bucks more.

Best $5.00 I spent in a long time.

Some of the garden supply companies have a bench/kneeling pad that has legs on it and padded on both the top and bottom of the seat. Kneeling you can use the legs as helpers to get back up from the floor. As we get older that is more and more important. Then you can turn it over and sit to get your breath back.. Amazon has them under garden kneeling bench for around $30
