On the subject of cases...

I've been carrying my wave in a nylon pouch I got from REI. After about two years, I think I better get a new one.

My dad lost his to a pouch like that, he went to get the tool and it was gone, fell out through the bottom. I found him one from Home Depot that held the tool and a mini mag light. He wears that all the time.

I have an orginal Leatherman and I only carry it at the FD on duty. How long has it been since Marlboro gave stuff away with their "Miles" program ? That's how long I've had and it has came in handy many many times.

Dont own one, but from all these replies I guess the wave would be nice :)

Usually I just carry one of those double sided pocket screwdrivers, and a stylus light.

stylus lights are awesome. worth every penny of the 17 bucks i paid for it. it doubles as the dome light for my K5 until i chase down the wiring problem!

Has anyone made use of the Leatherman warranty?

The small flathead on my Wave broke a few years back - I never bothered to pursue warranty...and have no idea if I even am eligible?

What's the deal? Is it "no questions asked", or a hassle?

Ok guys, didn't mean to poke a snake. I am obviously a minority here, but looks like a lot of you are having fun with me. I'm a beaver fan too, you can take a swing at that also. I, indeed have never owned a leatherman. I have had several in my hand and used them a little. When I first decided to carry one at work, I checked them both out, and to tell you the truth, when I first flipped the gerber out with one hand and a satisfying snap, I immediately was sold. I don't like having to use both hands and flipping the gerber out for all these years never gets old. I think if you used one much you would figure out right away, how to not pinch you hand. I appologize for not knowing that leatherman was made in oregon with a lifetime guarantee. I shouldn't have questioned its quality. I have found in my life that certain things of quality that you like, you stick with and never waver, (wife, certain tools, etc.), and obviously most of you feel the same way about this. Although, I carry my multitool every day a work, and am lost if its not in my side pocket, I do consider it a jack of all tools and master of none. thanks bob

I used to have a Gerber, their first multitool. It was better than my friend's original Leatherman, but it really was awful. It pinched my hand, it was hard to open just one tool, the steel wasn't much, and on and on.

Now I have a Victorinox, the Swiss Spirit. It's lighter than the big Leathermans, but it seems much more practical for me. The tools work well, and I can open any one without the others coming along in a clump. None of the recent Leathermans I have seen seem to be able to manage that very well (but they are way better than my old Gerber). The Vic's pliers are useful, and they don't bite my hands. It feels good to use.

I also have a Leatherman Squirt E4, the kind with the wire strippers. The big Leathermans might be better, but I definitely don't think the Squirt is up to the Victorinox's level of quality. I don't like my daughter's Juice or my son's Fuse so well, either.

If I were to lose my Vic, I would consider a big Leatherman, but would probably wind up with another Victorinox.

GF got me an original Leatherman sometime around 1990, I carried it for about twelve years and then my kids used it one day in the field and left it on the back of my pickup when they were done. I fooled around with China clones for a couple years and then bought a PS 2 off ebay that I still carry. The next year I bought three Leatherman originals in one lot, one for each boy, and a spare for myself. The only thing I really don't like is having only one knife blade. To make up for that i also carry a Kershaw Scallion. I keep the blade on the Kershaw sharp, and (ab)use the Leatherman blade as necessary.

I have a greber because at the time I got it, it was the only option with removable wire cutter bits (so when the cutter edge dulls it can be rotated and have a new cutting edge), and mine has saw coupler that uses jigsaw blades and are easily replaceable. Never had a problem getting pinched.

My EDC is an original WAVE and love it, Dad has a new wave and not as good.

My case got "water damaged" so I had to replace it, took a while but tracked down a leather one that also takes a fire steel. The new wave case *****.

Also used to have a Squirt on my keychain but I broke the pliers, (I was guilty of tool abuse).

BUT the leatherman is not a knife ! if I'm going out bush then I also carry a Buck.

Carry my squirt ps4 everyday. Seems I'm the only one here who does.

What is rare about those micras? I have a silver one.

Paste the following line into Google:

+leatherman +forfeiture +atf

Most all of these "disappeared" after all of the negative publicity got the attention of some Senators and Representatives. I've turned down two fifty for the pair this year.

For just my Leatherman's, I have a Super Tool 200, Super Tool 300, Micra, Squirt PS4, Wave, Kick, Surge, Juice CS4, and just picked up a Crunch.

My Micra was my most used and carried back in my college years, followed by the Wave. My Kick and Surge I use mostly when I'm going to be doing some kind of home repair. The surge's replaceable saw blades (which accept all kinds of jigsaw blades) help out a lot when I need to cut wood in tight places. And I basically use my Kick abusively. Where it was only like $30, I don't mind beating on it too much.

I change up which model I carry every day depending on what I feel like carrying or what tasks I foresee possibly needing a specific model for.

I just recently began carrying my new Crunch for every day use. The built in vice-grips give me so much more 'emergency' capability than any of my other models.

As for other brands, I have several Swiss Army knives, and a Victorinox SwissTool RS which are also in my rotation (the classic red handle swiss army knives are mostly carried in 'gentlemanly' situations, such as church, or weddings, or events where large bulky multi-tools are not feesable or likely needed.)

So yes, I'm apparently a multi-tool addict...

I have a Leatherman Supertool that was given to me as a gift over ten years ago - it's still in really good nick, I don't have it out and about nearly as much as I would like.

Best phillips screwdriver I've used, as it seems to be different to a normal one, it's more like a JIS head - best fit on Japanese cars of any screwdriver I have (well, until I get some Vessels anyway!).

One thing I did notice though lately was that the cutting jaws seem to bind on my one, like they are getting in the way of each other before the jaws meet - is this normal? Feels like the cutting blades will blunt if they keep on doing this... can they be out of alignment?

About 12 years ago I had a SOG Toolclip. Loved it, used it daily at work. Did something on the truck and remember leaving it sitting on the core support. Unfortunately I remembered 15 miles down the road, and it was gone forever.

Had a lot of crappy multi-tools in there, cheapie Gerber's and such that would get all wobbled out at the pivots. Now I carry a Leatherman Blast everywhere, use it every day, probably 20 times a day sometimes. Have had it at least 3 years now and it's holding up great. Don't miss the Gerber slide out pliers, as I can easily flip this open one handed if needed, and close it one handed as well.

I also got a SOG Powerlock for Christmas last year. Very nice, but I haven't converted to it from the Leatherman as it's much bulkier. I also want to "fix" the carry case, as when snapped shut there's close to 1 inch of extra room above the tool. So it can rattle around, and it takes a bulky tool and makes the case even longer/bulkier than it needs to be. Just need to move / re-rivet the button.

I did have Leatherman Orig. Supertool but its somewhere on the freeway because of my dumb*** self. That Supertool was indestructible but I now own a SOG Powerlock. Its almost just like Supertool (but better) and I'm able to swap out the tools on the Powerlock.

I gotta have my C4 spike. :bounce:

It is not normal for the jaws to rub together like that. I had a similar issue when I first bought my Surge. I sent it back for warranty repair and they sent me a brand new one.

In your case, I assume you have an original Super Tool. I don't really know how Leatherman handles warranty repair on models out of production. They will either replace the plier head for you, (I don't know if they just have old stock like that lying around), or will replace yours with a Super Tool 300.

Even though I like both of my Super Tools (200 and 300), I find the 200 to be much better quality/fit/finish than the 300. So just be aware, that if you send yours in for repair, they may just replace it instead.

Interesting responses! Not many votes for the Charge. I carry the Charge and use it umpteen times a day, knife, needle nose and bits. I would not do an entire job with it, I like the comment, jack of all master at none. If doing a big job I will have the proper screwdriver for it, in a pinch, no pun, the Charge is there! The bits are interchangeable, it comes with extra bit assortment in the sheath. The bits are basically half profile, so that they can be closed up in the handle, again great for temp use. One time I had to remove a wiring harness cover o a Volvo genset, and needed a torx, i did not have one in my road box at the time, and bingo I had that bit on the CHarge. It has 2 knives, one is serrated, a file and saw. Numerous ocassions have used the file and several times the saw. It has the tiny philips and slotted for tighteneing the glassses. Oh it also has PZ bits, I don't see many of them in my line, but I have 3 times in the last 5 years, again I did not have a PZ driver in my raod box, and bang its on the Charge! I guess I could go on forever how many times that tool has come in handy, every tool has story, sometimes longer story then others!
I don't know what I would do without it, but I am more efficient with it. My belt carries the Charge, the Maglite and a Berry!

That's why I bought it. Perfect for when you're riding around on your bike. The ability to clamp something broken together is nice.
