Its probably worth 1/2 what you paid for it. Remember the sign in the antique shop, " I buy junk and sell antiques. "

That's an ugly baby! With lot's of elbow grease and a few hours, it can be made into a good user box. BTDT many times.

However, it's not one of the oldest, rarest, most unique, so collectors aren't going to be fighting over it. Also, those who value honest patina are in the minority here - bling rules. IMHO, the profit from flipping this one isn't likely to promote you into a new triple bank.

FWIW, since that box isn't worth the cost to crate and ship, it's not likely many here are potential customers. Thus, you may have noticed, coming in new and being a one-way guy; asking for expert evals, but not sharing the purchase price doesn't seem to be going over well. Your box, your rep, your decision.

Ok I paid 50 bucks for it. Geez bite a guys head off. At least now I know I should do a complete repaint on it cause it's not going to fetch any coin in the current state. If I had a rare box I bought for 50 bucks and then destroyed with new paint I would be upset. I bought this box with the intention of keeping it anyway. Thanks for your help

Well bought. The original-patina-friction-slides-are-fine guys here would pay $50 for that one all day long. The new-bling-roller-slide-only guys would hit you with a brick if you tried to leave it in their garage.

Spend some time with degreaser and/or WD40 and see what it looks like all cleaned up. Personally, I prefer the patina of an older user box.

Suggest a search here on the labor and materials to do a quality repaint on an old box. More than one of us learned the hard way. I'll never repaint another. If you put a dollar value on your time, a repaint never adds enough value to an typical friction slide box to compensate for the grunt work. However, if you just love body and paint work and plan to keep it yourself, go for it.

Whichever way you go, please post photos.

Thanks jack, hopefully I can get her clean enough where it's not an eyesore and i wont paint it. i like the vintage used look also. I'm just waiting for the drawer remover tool and some time during the weekend to get to work.

See a few box's in your pic. So you buy cheap and try to sell high for something you don't know anything about? Don't seem like the puzzle peices all fit.

I think the message you sent said something other than "I'm going to keep it" And seriously, no one bit your head off...

As to it's patina, looking at the pic on higher mag, It appears to have some patches where the paint is gone and rust has set in. To me, that isn't patina.

When all is said and done it's a not that old a toolbox and is not rare at all. clean it up, and see what you have, but I would not be afraid to strip it, sand it and paint it.

Patina on antique furniture is one thing; anything that goes past an ability for even casual use, unless it is a museum piece, its not patina... I class this with a car. I don't know of any "patina" people when it come to cars. They dig in and restore it. go for it...

I bought this box to bring home and use in my home garage. I have limited space and saw a bargain and a storage solution. I came here asking about the box and was hoping I found a diamond in the rough. Guess not. I know that no one bit my head off, just a little sarcasm.
As for the other boxes, mine is the black one. The others are my coworkers

ok, some progress on this box. i found the serials and model numbers and it seems to be a KRA 377B and it says usa 69 so i guess thats the year.
the next thing i have to do is try and remove these drawers without the tool and remove the logo and lock and maybe power wash it and see what i got.

the other thing i have a question about is the drawers themselves. this box seems to have some added rubber and chrome accents. i would like to remove them if they are after market . has anyone seen anything like this on a snap on box. i have done some research and haven't found anything

i took off the rubber and took the drawers and rollers out and cleaned some stuff ... still a lot left to do but I'm still undecided on how I'm going to approach this

turns out I'm going to give the box to a pro and let them restore it for me. Question, did the old boxes come in any color besides red? and is PPG Ditzler Wet Spray Paint #73504 - Snap-On Red the right red
