Who made this hand plane?

I hadn't looked that closely at this hand plane or if I did I've forgotten. I was thinking it was a Stanley No 4. I just noticed the twisted lateral adjustment lever and that there is no "Stanley" or "Bailey" casting on the base. It came with a Handyman lever cap and the iron appears to be a more recent vintage Stanley (maybe even from a Handyman series plane). There is a "U" stamped or cast into the front of the frog. "MADEINU.S.A." casting in front of tote. "No 4" casting in front of knob. Knob and tote appear to be rosewood. No stamp on lateral adjustment lever. Thanks!

Lets see the **** end of the frog The two cartouches at the top (oval depressions) are a MF touch point. Like this:

Here is a quick tool for unmarked planes. Doesn't get them all.
https://www.timetestedtools.net/2016/01/26/quickly-identify-your-hand-plane/

The twisted lateral lever, and the disk on the end of it, gets you pretty close to a very short list.

(Opinion from here on, you have the plane in hand) Ohio is the only one I see. Then you jump to the right hand column, click the Ohio Tools link, then go to
https://www.timetestedtools.net/2017/02/09/my-notes-on-ohio-tools-timeline-draft-type-study/

Then you go "O crud, wild goose chase", since the Ohio should be (like Record), an O4, or 04, not a plain 4

And if it was a Marsh plane, M4, Rockford R4.

It is also possible its a frankenplane, as your levercap and blade seem to indicate.

Thank you RTM. I hear you on a frankenplane but I guess I'm really wondering about the bones of the plane - the base and the frog. I will check out the links you provided. The pics of this frog...

RTM Based on the info on timetestedtools, I'm feeling somewhat confident it is a Union No 4 with too many replacement parts. The later lateral adjustment appears identical and in the pic of said lateral adj lever and you can see the shapes of the frog behind the lever is identical. The front pic of the later Union frog is also the same as my No 4. However I think the depth adjustment wheel is probably not original as it appears to me to be a Stanley. Zooming on a pic on the ttt site shows an angle to the hatching (?) of the Union wheel. Clearly, the iron and lever cap (and I assume the chipbreaker is as well but ?) are from a Handyman plane. Thoughts?

Reading more on the ttt site, someone mentions that Union planes never had a frog adjustment screw but it seemed to be more of a question than a statement. Anyone know if Union planes had a frog adjustment screw? This plane has one. IF this plane was a Union then it was clearly a late Stanley made one. IMO. ???

Here's the "U" on the face of the frog. Was this done to later Stanley planes or does it possibly signify a Union frog?
