Who makes ratchets in this style?

A few years ago I was on a tool truck at work and the rep had a ratchet that worked like any other conventional ratchet however you could turn the end of the handle (imagine removing bits from a ratchet screwdriver) and it would turn the ratchet head through some fancy bevel gear system.

A few years later I now want one.

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

If it's the thing I think, it's called a 'Sidewinder'. They were made in Taiwan, although the brand name sounded American. They never seemed to be as useful as they seemed, as the head was always too thick. Any of the jobs I would have used mine for, I can do with a long handle fine tooth ratchet!

There was also a screwdriver that worked on a similar principle, called a 'Skewdriver'. I think the originals were British made, but not sure by who. There is a cheap Taiwanese copy that turns up from time to time!

I can sell you one cheap that's almost never been used.

It's one of those tools that seems like a great idea at the time but ends up never getting used. (lack of torque and a bulky head)

Stanley, proto, craftsman and Williams all make rotater ratchets

I've never seen a Proto or Williams version of the sidewinder. I wouldn't put it past Stanley or Craftsman to come out with some gimmicky garbage such as this, though.

Truper in Mexico sold the one I use.

Thicker for sure but very tough and helps with dexterity problems.

I have a "Reachit". It's 3/8" drive but isn't a ratchet. The back cover of mine says AC for AC spark plugs. My cousin had the only other one I have seen.

I've had one that is branded Blackhawk for about 15 years or so. It has come in handy a couple of times, but not enough to warrant hanging on to. Me being me, I keep it next to the Skewdriver set that I'm still waiting to have a use for...

I've seen mac and proto USA versions but most are cheap ****. I don't think they would be that useful.

They are a bit better than the Sidewinder in my opinion. Mainly because they look/function like a regular ratchet.

I have used the Stanley Rotator for several years and its held up pretty well for 3 engine rebuilds and 2 transmission overhauls.

Black and Decker also made something similar known as the Tri-Ratchet (I think these were more usable). A friend of mine has one and he has used it a few times with a 1/4" impact on some stubborn hard to reach fasteners.

Now that I'm home from work, here are a couple of shots of my "vintage" Blackhawk roto-ratchet.

Notice the similarities between it the Stanley posted by WARWEAPON762 above.
