I have 2 Esco 10498 and 2 AME 14980 and other than stickers they seem identical. I like the wide base and large footpads. I recommend them.

I like the 5 ton square NAPA pin style and for large trucks Sunex 22 ton pin style. For ratchet type HF impresses me and the Delco 6 ton from O'Reilly's aren't terrible. I borrowed a set of vintage 5 ton snap on I loved. Guy wouldn't sell them though. Wish I could remember the model number to check eBay. The post was yellow and the base was red.

I like that these are made in the USA and used by the military.

The jack stands I currently have are the 6tons made in china. They have held up ok. I always have a fail safe backup support.

Can I use just one on an axle? Some times I work on just one side at a time and leave three wheels on.

I do that occasionally for brake work but I put the tire under the pinch weld and keep my floor jack in place as well (with the weight on the stand). Keep your limbs out from under the hub/rotor/etc.

If you are getting under the vehicle use a minumum of two jack stands and wheel chocks.

Why should I use two jack stands as suppose to one? If I'm using just one jack stand I also place the floor jack under the pumpkin and place the tire under the frame on the ground.

I have no idea what brand they are, but they have orange bases with white supports, and they were sold out of Advance Auto Parts about 20 years ago :)

Best jack stands for what? I would say the best jack stands are ones made for a specific application by a custom fabricator.

Barring that a set of adequately assembled jack stands with metal feet on the legs, a good latch mechanism, and the right sized cradle for the application.

What "pumpkin"? On most cars, you don't have a place to jack up only one side and then place the stand in. What are you trying to achieve? If you jack up the front or rear, both wheels are up in the air. Why not just using two stands for stability?
