Just need some decent phillips and flats that won't snap when I sneeze on them.
Who's the go-to for impact bits these days?

I've recommended Makita Gold bits elsewhere. They're advertized as impact, though I've never used them that way. For my use the fit is great and they seem to hold up well.

A standard flat screw bit and "impact" can't be used in the same sentence. LMAO
Pretty much the same with a Phillips. Now a manual impact driver for screws is a different animal. I threw mine in the trash and bought a torch. Ahahahahha.

This is pretty vague.
Are you using them in a powered impact driver?
If so, are you wanting insert bits for use with a bit holder or power bits for direct connection? General DIY use or pro use? Any specific application?

Wera makes decent impact bits, I run them in a Ko-Ken 3/8” square to 1/4” hex adapter on my 3/8” Snap-On impact wrench without any issues. I’m still on the predecessor of this set, so while they are consumables, they last a fair amount of time.

Wera won’t give you the slotted/ flat bits though. I personally have used regular tough-hard flat bits in a Wera torsion (3/8” square) bit holder - with that same impact wrench - on the occasion that I needed it.

(Don’t dismiss the idea of a slotted/ flat bit in an impact wrench/ driver before you tried it - in some instances it works wonders, especially considering removal … .)

My local home depot ***** so I ended up at amazon, of course. I picked up a small kit of the successor to that gold line, XPS:
The case is tough plastic, doesn't feel cheap at all. The bit holder holds firm as it has both a magnet and retaining ring. We'll have to see about the rest of it, fingers crossed.

Who the hell still uses slotted driver and phillips bits for diy use??? Hard enough to properly drive them with hand tools let alone power tools. You didn’t specify usage

I use APEX bits I pick up on eBay. Work great, find what I want at good prices.
Apex is still making good impact bits. I think they are still made in the USA. Makita, Dewalt, and Bosch are good too. They are what I use if there are lots of fasteners to deal with. I say hand impact if I mean a hand impact, and Vessel makes good 5/16 bits for those.

Wera was recommended and although I do own a few Wera bits, none of them are Impact rated. For Wera, that means "Impaktor". I would buy them from either KC Tools or DRPD, both well known and trusted companies here. They have both treated me very well.

In truth you can't really go wrong with any of the big boy brands. This time of year, they all have deals on large quantity bit sets. As a plus, you can end up with a bunch of hard cases for essentially no cost.
