Why can't I buy a...

Looking for a cover for a GFCI in stamped steel for a 2x4 handy box. I can find them in nylon/plastic, wood, and decorator covers. However I want plain stamped steel, that will match the switches, non GFCI outlets and such.

Do they exist? Or should I not have a GFCI in that size box? It's a single GFCI on a 20amp breaker fed with 12/2. Nothing else on that circuit.

The first mistake is using a handy box in the first place, with a bulky device like a GFCI receptacle it's like trying to stuff 10 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag, 4 sq box with the appropriate raised cover works better.

Assuming you want surface mount and instead of using the small handy box... would these work for you ?

GFCIs use decore style plates.

Ive seen metal ones at home depot.

I've noticed that our local big box stores don't carry them in plain stamped galvanized to match surface-mounted boxes. I know, cuz I looked, and even asked.

I found one that's close on Amazon, asked in both the orange and blue big box stores. Going to check Yesco (local electrical supply) next time I'm over that way.

I don't think I overstuffed the box, the hot and neutral land on the GFCI, a pig from the box, one from the outlet, wirenutted to the ground coming in.

Yes this is surface mounted, it's in our barn. That's why I don't like the nylon ones in there. They don't look right in there. Everything else is galvanized steel.

Looks like I'm swapping the boxes out for some 4x4's if I can't find them

You could take a galvanized switch plate and customize it for the decora hole. I have a whole bunch of handmade plates because I can't find the plate I want with the hole I want. It takes maybe 20 minutes to hack the custom hole and you're done. Cheaper than wasting my time hunting through every usless big box on the planet.

home depot and lowes both have those style covers in brushed stainless.
