Why chrome anvils, and not vises?

Wait there's an old one by General (looks like their new ones are painted). The chrome still looks good though, better than the rest of it... I'm impressed.

Ah, had to search for jewelers vise, since the chrome anvil I saw was one of that type. Well there's all kinds of chrome tools around, so why not more of these? You'd think someone would want their vise to stand out that way... never know about these things.

I have to be honest - your post feels a little bit like a troll - but I'll bite.

Anything that is chrome plated is not meant to be hit, smashed, compressed, or abused in any way. The idea of a chrome plated anvil is disturbing. I suppose you might get away with a chrome plated jeweler's anvil since it will on be hit with a tiny hammer, but anything bigger would be dangerous. Chrome plating is brittle and sharp. Hitting a chrome plated anvil or vise could easily cause shards of plating to come flying off.

Guys who like their vises shiny tend to use polishing compound on the original metal.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
For years Wilton offered it as an option on a few models, it was a very expensive option, almost equal to the price of the vise. An older gentleman who was a maintenance mechanic that worked where I worked in the late 80's/ early 90's worked at Wilton for 15 years and still had contacts there got me a tour of one of their facilities and got me employee discound on 3 vises I bought. There were a few guys who were huge, one was 6'8" a d the other was at least 6'10" tall with arms almost the size of their heads standing sanding and buffing vises that were going to be chromed.
