Why did Snap on discontinue cranberry red toolboxes?

Was it really that poor of a seller? Seems to be a lot of love for that color...?

I suspect that it's like stick shift cars. Those that like 'em really like 'em and are vocal about it but there's just not enough demand to make it worth making them.

To make them more valuable for resale when mechanics trade up for new ones. It's like the green, orange, blue, pink, etc handled tools made by them that are stupidly expensive because Joe Kool has to have them.

I'm surprised they would discontinue ANY color option. I understand they don't want a warehouse full of boxes in a color that doesn't sell, so I can see having "standard" color options in stock and then they should have other colors available, even if at an extra charge. Some of the no longer listed colors are still possible to order for an add-on item, like a side locker. I have something on order like that right now.

Baby epiq?

I think colors just change with the times. I've never seen anyone buy a new real box or cranberry in 10 years. Now it's either black , royal blue, orange or green. Once in a while I'll see red but not much

yes - Green Micah to match Senior Epiq  Toolman confirmed order this week when he was here, saying it was not kicked out of the system for non-standard color code, so looks like it should show up green.

When was the last time the cranberry was listed / sold? 'Cuase I believe they have a time rule on availability of accessories to match. I think it's 8 years or something. That's what the R&R Toolbox rep told me and why he put my Baby Epiq order in for the green, since the main box was bought that way 3 years ago.

First of all it is a very sharp color, what I don't understand is they don't offer it in toolboxes but still offer that color in carts. In fact the baby epiq and the sidekiq (basically same thing with flip up lid) are both offered in berry color. My dealer also ordered another cart few months ago in berry, maybe like a krsc43 or something like that. So I think if u pushed it u could order a box in that color.

cranberry has been around since '94 or so...

seems like in the late 90's the color "explosion" happened.

i havent seen too many cranberry boxes in person, but it's my favorite nonstandard color.

Snap-on does not warehouse boxes

The vast majority are made to order, hence the lead time.

They may not stock up much, but you know they do some 'cause you can order a popular / standard color and have it arrive in little more than the time it takes for truck freight to ship it. The first red KRL I bought was ordered on Wednesday and arrived Friday...tell me that ain't "in stock".....

Mind asking how much? I've looked at it also considering a hutch

Cranberry with titanium trim looks much more modern than with chrome trim, a nice look.
The meanest looking box I've ever seen was an 84 inch epic in green mica with black trim. So hot!

You bought a common color that was almost certainly part of a huge promotion.

You also got lucky.

Snap-On does not warehouse tool storage.

It'd only be common sense for them to warehouse the most common colors I would think? My dealer keeps several in his barn

Snap-On's tool storage facility is mainly just-in-time production. Tool storage units are easily damaged and there is a lot of air in the volume occupied. From an industrial engineering standpoint, it does not make economic sense for Snap-On to warehouse tool storage.

There is very little room at our tool storage facility in Algona Iowa to store more than a few days worth of production, hence, we do not warehouse tool storage.

I typically do not have much in stock at any one time. For one thing, I sell it quickly :pimpflash and secondly, it never fails, when I have a green box on the truck somebody wants an orange one!

I have some colleagues who stock several hundred thousand dollars in tool storage. I won't give up room in my shop for unsold boxes.

My dealer probably isn't your typical dealer. He runs 4 trucks just his truck is a platinum (sp?) truck. He stocks quite a bit in his barn lol

The guy who was most responsible for my buying my route has several mil in inventory.

As for Platinum, Platinum status is kinda easy to achieve. It's the Platinum Premier and Platinum Elite that are hard work to achieve.

Last month, for only the second time in four years I achieved Platinum Elite status. Very few of us can achieve that status. Fewer can retain it. I'm not sure I'll be able to retain it-I've had a particularly good second quarter.

I'll ask him which one he actually is when I go to his house Monday. 99% sure it's elite but I'll ask lol I'm curious myself. I know he just replaced one of his trucks to the tune of 189k for a kenworth. He drives a Pete he brought in 04 for 140. Said he wants to replace it with a tandem axle but doesn't want the payment for that lol

Maybe not in Algona, but I'll bet the distribution centers in other regions order in stuff they know will sell ahead of time. That's a form of "in stock" if those are not customer orders in my book. The box I got fast came from a SO regional center in PA -- I remember the dealer telling me "It's in (whatever distribution center that is -- Harrisburg, maybe) ready to go if you buy it!" Does that regional place not belong to the SO corporate chain? If not, then sure, someone else is "stocking" boxes, but I'll bet SO owns the whole chain prior to the local dealers tool-truck......

The teal was a nice color, the olive green from the early 90's was cool too. I don't see that one anywhere.
