I have been lurking the forum for a while and decided to share my 40x60 shop build. It has just begun, but it sits on 1/2 acre property that was completely wooded. I had a company clear using a hydro-ax and started dirt work this past week after I received the fill/grade and building permits.

I also have a youtube channel I am trying to record vlogs on documenting the process. If you check it out, be nice lol, my first time recording and I am not very experienced with these GoPros.

I have a long way to go, but I hope to have the foundation done within two weeks and the steel for the building is already ready for delivery. Looking forward to getting some more good information from the forum.

Haven't been out to the site in a week or so due to hectic work schedule. I was able to get the plumber scheduled for today to rough in the sewer lines. Crew has finished the pad dirt work and working on the surrounding area as well as excavated and started rebar for the dyno pit. Should poor the pit foundation tomorrow.

Here are some new pics from today. Been working too much but was able to get measurements on anchor bolts and pit walls to make sure they are correct for pour this week.

Ok I’ve been out of town for a week and they poured the foundation on last Friday.

Also had another 8ft section of culvert added to each driveway making it a total of 24ft wide each.

The steel will show up Tuesday of this next week...progress is being made.

Steel arrived today. Due to the holiday next week and the lull rental, probably won’t get started until the last week in November.

Haven't had much of an update to post in a while. The frame is still in about the same state it was. It has all the main steel up, but missing some small pieces missing here and there. The rain every week has made it hard to begin putting up the insulation and panels.

Rained today and more rain planned for the remainder of the week. I know it'll be done one day but man I was really hoping to have it done before the end of the year.

On a good note...I did purchase all the light fixtures for the inside and a two post lift for one of the bays.

I know what you mean, except here it has been the snow. I was hoping ours would have been completed by the end of the year as well.

Good luck with yours, looks like it is going to be a great place to play!

Making some progress this week.

I came out yesterday and got the two man doors cut in.
5e5302eeeb5de9f3c2bc8abf62e1a199.jpg

Hung and tightened the cable bracing in the roof and back middle bay.
e1b09903800bae1ee5fe112ec497f928.jpg

Today I have a crew of 7 guys getting the rest prepped for insulation and siding. So the trim work that can go up, the base angle, the roof angle, etc. I hope to have the building dried in by kid next week then electrical can start.

Had a skid steer delivered and going to get three locks of crushed concrete tomorrow to start work around driveways to hopefully help for rain next week.

Looks really good so far. Are you using panel type roll up doors or jelly roll style?

All the free open space inside looks like a great canvas for your shop. Good luck in the rest of your build.

Thank you.

Jelly roll style I guess. Never really heard that before but it does kind of look like a fruit roll up I suppose lol.

I’m waiting on 4 more lights to show up before I rent a scissor lift again and finish the last circuit of interior lighting.

So I started framing the interior for bathroom and lounge area Sunday. I should finish it and hopefully the lights next weekend.

526e9510fe250e310849a578f1f56d6a.jpg

The door company is supposed to come tomorrow to install all 3 overhead doors so I can finally start locking the place up. It’s starting to come together.

Now if I can just get on the electricians radar for the meter and two breaker box install.

We’ve got doors. Door company finished up on the overhead doors today. Work great for sitting out in the weather for 3 months.

Next...get the electricians out as soon as practical to get meter box and breaker panels wired.

This weekend I was able to get the interior build out completely framed in and most of the electrical roughed in for that area.

Video is up on my YouTube channel if you want to see a better update.

**not sure why two of the pics are rotated incorrectly**

Excellent progress! I am building a steel building also, and was wondering if you tied the wooden framing to the steel?

David

I was not going to and leave it free standing, however, when I was squaring and leveling all the walls it helped to strap it in a few places to the girts so I left it strapped. Only at I believe two of the corners though.

Thanks WIKD, I have heard so much conflicting info on this, but I am going to tie them together. As you said it will make it so much easier working by myself...

Thanks again!

Haven’t gotten out to the shop this week but the electrician called me today and said both 200 amp panels are energized. Now to get the lights that are up wired to the switch tomorrow and then the darkness can’t stop me from working lol.

Lights are on, got them all wired up on Sunday. Electrician came by and mounted and wired up the 6 security lights on the exterior.

Really impressed with the James Industry 2x2 high bay lights. I was only going to do 12 but decided to do 16. I could have easily got away with 12, it is super bright. I need to take a reading once I get everything set up.

Now to start working on drywall etc to get some AC in the little build out area. 13f17b665b894e89cf7ba594de8f2175.jpg928839b7326cef409d95cfa4516d6238.jpg
