I have the Craftsman ones from back when Sears still had inventory. Just about anyone can private label them, so be on the look out. If it has the same handle shape, comes with the striking cap, and it's made in USA, then it's Wilde. The angle of the tip may be different depending on who private labels them. I bought one of the Tekton ones to fill in a size that wasn't available under Craftsman and the Craftsman ones are definitely more angled.

I forgot to mention the Hyper Tough… I have them in 36” (2), 25”, 17”, and 8”.

I’d love to get my hands on another Hyper Tough 8” and a 12”.

I knew about the Craftsman, but you can’t buy them new under that brand anymore.

I have a John Deere 36" bar built by Wilde to go with my 3 piece Craftsman set built by Wilde. All of them have the striking cap and priced very reasonably.

Welp, doesn’t the engineering flowchart in your minds then realize that the Walmart option provides the same tool? Aren’t there Walmart stores almost everywhere in the US? You can order online even if your local store doesn’t have it in stock?

You all are talking about driving 3 hour for pry bars when the petrol cost in your country is at the second highest level in recorded history...........

🤯😳🤔

Yes, we realize that, but Green > Black. Geez…🤪

IIRC, shipping isn’t available for these from Wally World. I’m pretty sure they’re discontinuing them. That means I won’t be able to get the 8” and 12” to complete my set and my GJ induced OCD will drive me insane…🤣

I picked up the 17”, 25” and 36” Hyper Tough pry bars (all black) this evening but had to hit two Walmarts to do it. I can get the 12” in black from Tekton to keep the colors consistent.

Not anymore. It’s (gas) back to pre Covid prices in many places.

I wish they made the bright orange Lang version in the 8" length. A small pry bar is easy to forget under a hood if it blends in

My favorite pry bars were the old snapon design with striking cap. If I had known they'd change them, I would have bought more. I don't like the new giant handles

Had the Sears Craftsman set that included a 12", 18" and 24" prybar and added a 36" one from MalWart not long ago. All are made by Wilde. I like them. You can sure tell which one I use the most though. That little 12" resides on my cart and I never go for a longer one unless/until that one just wasn't enough, which it almost always is.

FWIW I also picked up a set of Stanley Craftsman prybars (made in China) at Lowes because they looked pretty nice and were on sale for cheap and, surprise (not) they ****. They're still capable of prying something and the hammer-ends hold up really well to a pounding with a 3# sledge but good luck forcing one of the working ends into anything less than a 1/8" gap to start with. The problem is they don't have a sharper beveled edge like a normal prybar which works to get them to fit in anything smaller. I've never had a worse prybar in my hand before these. They're for sure getting set out in the driveway at the next city-wide garage sale day.Prybars.jpg

So modify the end of the pry bar to suit your liking.
I've never had any luck at all ever grinding to fix the end on a flathead screwdriver. The heat always makes it too brittle and trash even if I use the dip tray to try to cool it off. I can't imagine the amount of grinding needed to try to fix the 1/8" blunt end on those Stanley Craftsman prybars would fare any better, and then they'd be ruined for selling. As it is I can fetch half my money back easy and unload a turd I don't want or need.

Picked up the 36 hyper tough miusa today. Couldn't get my other Mayhews in a good place, and the 36 came in clutch. I actually think I prefer the hard handle as well compared to the mayhew grips. Pretty pleased with it for 22 bucks or something like that. Its a beast.

I have Mayhew made Craftsman prybars also that I've had since sometime in the late 90s or thereabouts, but I picked up my Craftsman set with striking caps made by Wilde sometime around 2016-2017 for under $20 iirc. I think a fair number of others here got a set too back then. That was when there was still a Sears near me open and it was one of the ever fewer 'Made in USA' tools with the Craftsman name on ithem could still be found in the store, and just added the Hyper Tough from MalWart made by Wilde recently.

I got the impression from earlier threads the COO USA Hypertough Wilde rebrands were a thing of the past. Or that a smaller size range was now available.

Edit: looking online, it looks like they are broadly available. Thanks.

Yes, we realize that, but Green > Black. Geez…🤪

The “my tool colors must all match AND be funky” crowd has contributed to $€£¥ millions in sales for tool companies and even greater debt.

I have never seen such foolish eagerness to part with hard earned money just so that a hand tool can be viewed in a preferred shade.....

It’s completely ridiculous.

Yes, Matco blue handles look nice. But my gosh......

For those of you with Hypertough versions, a purchase date / size would be interesting. Thanks.

I found out about them on here. I purchased mine in 2021. I have multiple lengths and I guess 12”, 18”, 36” and maybe one or two others. I made sure to check the tags for “Made in USA”.

FWIW, I own a complete set of Wilde pry bars purchased in set form from Amazon from Wilde. I also have a complete Mayhew set.

When I want to Walmart, I did see the “Made in India” cheap pry bars available as well.

*You must check the country of origin on the label, look for “Made in USA”.

When I went this weekend, the Made In USA ones were black and had a USA printed on the handle like seen in some of the pictures in this thread and on the hanger tag a USA flag. The red ones didn't say USA nor did the label, hope that helps.

The red non USA ones, did they have striking caps?

Back when I bought my HT Wilde USA scraper, all they had was red handle Wilde USA prybars (I already had the Craftsman Wilde pry bars). That was quite a while ago. Now all I see in stores for the Wilde USA ones are black handles & no more red. Website still shows red though for the Wilde ones. The red pry bars with no striking caps aren't USA. Maybe they changed the USA ones to black to differentiate USA & non USA?

If I remember correctly, Sears also had 2 versions of the Craftsman pry bars & scrapers, USA & India I think it was? Not sure why I even bought the HT Wilde scraper cause I have the Craftsman USA ones. My guess was probably because you guys/GJ & cause Craftsman never offered a Wilde scraper with the striking cap (not that I need the striking cap). Not sure who made the Craftsman USA scrapers, anyone know? They're kinda shaped like Wilde & just noticed the shank has a WN stamp on it.

BTW, all you guys buying the Wilde pry bars, you guys might need one of these too. ;) I've had it saved in my cart for a while now but never have the urge to buy it. I rarely use my bigger prys bars these days.

Most of the prybars I have are Mayhew made Craftsman. When did they move to Wilde?
Wilde were the all plastic handled ones without a striking cap they sold before they changed to Mayhew. I will take a picture of one later. You will know them. They are really common.

Edit… I should have read the whole thread before I commented… the Wilde ones I have are like the all plastic ones in Darkzero’s posts, but labeled Craftsman.
