eBay MoFo gave me a nice surprise when I opened up the package today.

2 wrenches where the chrome is coming pretty bad - one is way worse than the other. The worst I've seen.

Will Mac warranty this ****? ***** too cause I've been looking for a reasonably priced set for some time. These are made in the USA, too.

Of course, I don't have a local Mac guy to even check with. I guess I could call them up. I'll probably get the damn Taiwan version in exchange though.

Thoughts?

It's worth a shot. Is there hammer marks or anything on the handle where it is pealing? They might not warranty it if there are. As for your worries of getting the same wrench back, just ask where the new one is made before you send it in.

I've gotten warranty exchange from Mac for finish problems like that. Don't know if it comes down to dealer discretion or not, though.

Nothing greatly noticeable as far as hammer marks go. Good point. I will likely send it in so hopefully they will be able to tell me before I do.

Good to know. I know these wrenches are likely to see high leverage, so they should be made to avoid chrome chipping like that.

Long 0 degree offset box metrics....... nice. How long is that 17x19? Just curious.. I have a set of S/O's I got about a month ago and they are stonking long.

As for the warranty, etc... I'd email that dude and ask for at least a partial refund or something. Thats BS. He should disclose that they have a large area chipped..

Some of my mac wrenches have similar chrome problems; I think Mac customer service is good and they should send you some new ones! :)

Cool. Thanks for that link! Saves me time looking for it.

The 17x19 is a hair over 14-1/2" long. :)

Yea, I already wrote the seller about it. It appears to be a pawn shop so they'll probably respond during the day.

About how much did you pay for the Snappy set? I looked at them too, but seems like they've been going for almost 2x what I paid. I like the Mac feel better though.

The Taiwanese version probably alot better quality than the American version.

Hmmm I belive the S/O is slightly longer.. almost 15" long on my 17x19.. I bought mine as part of a "package" deal and by the time it was said and done I made some $$ and got those wrenches free :) Otherwise they seem to be selling anywhere from $120-175 depending on the set/sizes. Mine covers 10-24mm..

I suppose......... ;) Yeah sometimes I come out like a king.. other times not so much. It evens out in the end I'm sure. PS.. I have some of the older square style Mac knuckle saver long pattern metrics.. they feel ok.. but I prefer the S/O's I own to them. Actually I was going to sell off the Mac's.

If you send them in to MAC, you will invariably get Taiwanese versions back. If you find a local dealer, it would all depend on what he has in inventory, you could lucky and find some USA made ones.

If it were me, I would quickly check the local dealer, and if no luck, try to return them. If there was no disclosure of the chipped chrome, you would certainly have a valid case for return. Was this totally not visible in the picture on eBay?

Rule #1 with Mac Tools: mail anything you aren't satisfied with in. They are the best of all the truck brands at warranty by mail. Mail it in and you will almost certainly get new ones. Despite all their other issues, Mac's mail in warranty service is the best in the business. If good ol' E was around, he would back me up here.

Oh yea, I would file a complaint and send them back to the seller as soon as I got my money back. From the pics posted above there was no doubt that they took the pics around the damage in an attempt to hide the damage. On top of that If they did not list the damage it in the auction it was another attempt to conceal damage in hopes of screwing someone. I HATE ebay sellers like that. They should have to pay a fine for **** listings like that.

Definitely give that guy negative feedback once you get this resolved. Even if the seller gives you your money back, he was obviously trying to pull a fast one, and others should be warned about his tactics. This wasn't an honest mistake, it was fraud. I certainly would not want to buy anything from that seller, and would appreciate a warning from a fellow member. Think of it as your good deed for the tool community.

I guess I'm one of the few people that likes Ebay's new system where the seller's hands are tied in regards to leaving negative feedback. The bad sellers on Ebay can't hold it over your head any longer with the threat of returning negative feedback.

X2....

Unless you get lucky, and find a local dealer that has the matching wrenches, chances are, if you sent them to MAC, you would get back wrenches that are slightly different. If that does not bother you, well, then fine. But if it does, returning the whole set to the eBay seller is your best bet.

The way to proceed is to file a Paypal complaint. That way, any discussion back and forth with the seller becomes part of the record. You can politely let the seller know that you expect a full refund PLUS return postage. I would not expect to get the refund untill the item is sent back though, (make sure it is sent back insured and with signature confirmation.) Do not send them back until Paypal instructs you to do so. I'm not sure if Paypal will force the seller to pay return shipping, but you still have the potential to leave negative feedback. If the seller hesitates at all, explain to the seller that his coorperation is essential for him to receive positive feedback. If not, he will get negative feedback, and "0" Stars in the applicable category. Hope it does not come to that, but if you do leave negative feedback, make sure you follow eBay's feedback rules so that it sticks. For example, if you leave feedback that says: "SH**Y condition" the seller could get the feedback removed, (no profanity allowed).

Can you post a link to the eBay ad so we can take a look?

Worse case scenario, if you get no satisfaction from the seller, you can always go back to MAC and get the Taiwanese replacements. Then resell the whole set on eBay (properly disclosing that a couple have been replaced recently). You will get most, if not all, of your money back; and then start over.

BTW, I think I have a set of these around that will be selling on eBay soon; not sure if they are Snappy or MAC though. I will start digging. I KNOW that I have a set of the long pattern MAC combo wrenches to sell soon, (a really awesome set, up to 27mm I think, and the big ones are really long).

Well, sent 2 nice emails to the seller last week hoping to get a response, but nothing. One last try before it goes to paypal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can request a PARTIAL refund. I really like the set and some money thrown my way would likely appease me - IF I can get them replaced by MAC.

there's no official partial refund policy - it's up to the seller's discretion. some do, dome don't.

skyline is mostly correct - paypal doesn't enforce the seller paying for return shipping but does enforce a refund ofthe original shipping. some shippers will cave in and give you the return shipping back as well.

if you file a paypal dispute, escalate it to a claim immediately. i hope you used a CC to fund the pp transaction because you can always dispute the charge with your cc company and pp really hates the hell out of that.

i just had a transaction go south and had used the bank transfer method (stupid me was in a hurry and didn't change the payment type to cc) and realized it about 3 "oh-no" seconds after I clicked the button. Seller disappeared and paypal said "you win but they cleared out their account, so sorry." The auction had paypal buyers protection up to $2000 (it's shown in the top right of the page in the "Buy Safely" section and also dwn in th ePayment Details section) and I _always_ screen print each auction I win so I emailed a pic of that and politely asked what "you purchase is guaranteed up to ***" meant. Got my refund in less than an hour. Part of me think they're only refunding if you demand it - scammy buggers.... :pimpflash
