Sorry to bump an old thread but it is relevant as I'm about to order.

If I use a vise mainly for automotive work and gun related stuff, is it safe to say the special edition mechanic's vise (21500A) would be sufficient and I don't really need the tradesman's bullet edition (63200A)?

This is a tradesman vise just in a different color. If I didn't just buy a 6" tradesman for $150 I'd be buying one.

Also it would be perfect for auto work and for gun related stuff but you might want to get different jaws so you don't mar the surfaces of the guns.

After contemplating between the tradesman's and the mechanic's vise, I decided to spend the extra $$$ and have a hopefully lifetime purchase with the 1755.

Glad bumping the thread helped a few other folks get a good deal on this combo, although I'm disappointed to see that somebody received one with misaligned jaws. Will report back upon receipt.

Thinking about getting one before the years end. But, I already have an 1750, 1755, and a 6 inch Wilton import....

This site is a bad influence. :p

Just used my new vise for the first time yesterday. The old vise wasn't big enough for what I needed, so it was perfect timing. It was really nice to use. Very happy.

I just picked up a very clean Tradesman 1760 at an estate sale and I've got to say that the Tradesman series seems to get less respect than it deserves. For most folks they're probably the last vise they'll ever need.

Where do you put the "TAKE10" coupon code. It's taking me straight to billing after entering my info? Thanks!

If I remember right you add the code in the last step before checking out. Mine arrived today, the bullet end is a little scuffed from rubbing against the inside of the box, other than that it's in perfect shape!

Ordered mine through Amazon / Coastal Tool. Got it today, and some damage that was not evident by the outside of the box. Not terrible, and definitely shipping induced. Still you would think they could package a bit better?

Also the sticker was falling off. Don't really care for it anyway, but..

Probably going to end up taking it apart to clean any shavings inside, pop the cap off and get it back into shape.

I finally look at this thread two days ago and get intrigued. I searched the internet for the best price on a 1755; and $275 is about the going rate for the Special Edition , hammer included. Problem is, I already have a 5 1/2" vice.

So just for giggles, I check the local Craigslist. For the first time in months, there's something interesting: a Wilton 1765. I look at it, the mounting holes aren't scratched, the jaws look pristine, and the pipe vice inserts are also perfect. The guy claims it's "new", and I guess I believe him because it sure appears unused. Amazon wants $529, he wants $350. I've only spun the jaw open and closed, I haven't actually clamped anything with it--but this thing is so smooth-operating!

I don't think it's going to replace my current Made-in-USA 5 1/2" Mac Tools-branded vice. I don't know who Mac sourced it from. I've had that mounted on my toolbox for the last 20-odd years. After working the Wilton, I know I'm going to have to pull the Mac apart for cleaning and lube. I'm sure that even after lube, the Mac will never be as smooth as the Wilton. [EDIT] Cleaned and lubed the Mac, and it's still rough and crude compared to the Wilton!

Is the quoted 5" maximum opening accurate?

Got mine Yesterday. From Coastal Tools. Arrived in 3 days.

Mine too was dented on the end cap. I had read in another post that some Wilton vises have had a lot of shavings in them when new. I took it apart to fix the dented cap and sure enough it had a fair amount of shavings and junk from the manufacturing of it. Pretty easy to take apart and clean out and regrease, but kind of sad they send these out like this. Very happy with the vise now.

To answer the question above. The vise opens all the way up at 6", but that is where it comes unthreaded.

Well as MY luck would have it, I posted the deal from pricefall for everyone and of course when I go to use it, it is back up to $346.46 + $7.95 shipping, so then I go to Amazon who had ONE left for $275.95 & Shipping & Handling: $7.99 Grand Total: $283.94, how much you want to bet coastal cancels that order? :dunno:

Looks like the Wilton 75th combo deals are over?

Yea, there is a general rule in the hot deal community is to place the order and ask questions later (assuming the seller is reputable). Many amazing deals have been lost by people who know the deal is amazing but contemplate it too long.

I am often able to resell the hot deals items even after being used at prices greater than my original purchase price.

I would contact Wilton, ask for their vise parts guy (Tony) and tell him what happened. I'm betting he'll send you a new end cap and a new label plate for free. At the very least you'll have a spare of each.

Got my Pricefall Wilton yesterday...

L1010998.jpg
Packaging was pretty dismal for a 58lb vice

L1010985.jpg
Looks like it sat on a shelf for some time, covered in dust
Wilton nameplate completely off

L1010989.jpg
Came with a pre bent handle!

L1010987.jpg
Bit of paint wear but end cap isn't dented

Think I'll contact Coastal Tool and/or Wilton to see if there's anything they will do about the bent spindle handle. Other than that, the vise SEEMS OK.

Well, I already got an email reply from Wilton, very quick, asking for a copy of the receipt. I sent them my receipt from Pricefall/Coastal, we'll see what happens...

Edit: Got confirmation That Wilton is sending out a new part. Above and beyond IMO. Excellent customer service from Wilton!

Where did you put in the coupon code?? I can't find it anywhere, only "if you have a coupon code, proceed to checkout"

It was on the very last page, after all the billing junk. Literally the page to confirm the order. If I remember correctly, there isn't a place for it, it's something you click on, says "coupon code" or "do you have a coupon" (upper right-hand side of the page). You get the impression they really don't want you to find it.
