Some time back, Ryan posted about a deal from Wilton that if you sent a vise photo to them you would be entered into some kind of contest. I forgot all about sending a pic of my Shop King until I opened a package delivered this morning. Inside was a letter commenting about my vise and that I will be notified later as to whether mine made it to the Grand Prize round. Below are the pics of what was in the box. I think they will be self explanatory.

They are in the "Vise" thread but I will try to repost one later.

Just looked and it is in post 9 of the "Vises of GJ". I did get a replacement pipe jaw from someone on here(can't remember who) to complete it.

I had sent in a picture as well but when I recently looked thru the vises I did not see mine. I wonder why it vanished, I was hoping for a clamp. One can never have enough c clamps.

That is a sweet clamp with the copper plated screw!

I just received mine yesterday also. My wife asked me why I ordered one and I told her it had to be a mistake, until I read the letter. Damn nice "C" Clamp if I do say so myself.

Still waiting on mine. I was just thinking of that the other day. It's been a really long time since I submitted mine, this was one long contest!

So you guys got those just for entering?

Basically yes. You had to upload an actual picture of "your" Wilton vise and write a story about how you used it.

I received my clamp today and was actually surprised as I had forgotten about the entry. It is a heavy duty 6" clamp and quality piece. About a $50-$60 dollar clamp.

I seem to remember it starting around February. I just got my clamp today (it seems like most everyone else). What can I say, Wilton makes a sweet C clamp.

Just curious as to why a copper spindle would be used in a c-clamp. I would think it's too soft and would wear. The body is cast iron so it must not be for delicate surfaces or anything, and I don't imagine it would be beacuse of sparking issues.

It is copper plated not solid copper.

Funny, We're all excited about a C-clamp.

On the same day the vise contest ended, Wilton also gave away a new Camaro SS.

Somebody out there is really excited!

I got mine as well.

Yeah winning the camaro would have been cool, but I'll take a free $50 C-Clamp any day of the week. This is officially the nicest C-Clamp I own.

On the website it states the contest ended on 09/30. I wonder who won the new Wilton vise? I didn't see on there where a winner was listed.

I just looked the info of the vise on the website, and the "C" clamos they were giving away, from MSC Direct, list the "C" clamp for $83 for the 6". So Wilton has gave out a little chunk of money for all of those clamps.

I do have to thank Autopts for telling everyone on here about the contest. That was the only time I even heard about the contest. Someone has a brand new Wilton headed to their doorstep.

I forgot to say, but the "C" clamp is ...........Made in the U.S.A. :rocker:

I wonder how they judged everything? There are 256 entries and stories by what I see yet some had over 13,000 votes and one person had 17,000 votes. I entered but never had a pic of a Wilton as I don't have one, yet I got a clamp.:headscrat

The clamp is marketed as a welders clamp. As mentioned by someone else, the spindle is copper plated and welding splatter is less prone to stick to copper.

As everyone said above, the copper is just a plating to prevent weld spatter from sticking.

What wasn't mentioned, is that the body is not cast iron. It is forged steel. That's what separates a quality C clamp like a Wilton, from the junk out there.

I believe that Craftsman C clamps are made from ductile iron. That's a big step better than the cast iron that the Chinese C clamps use (which makes them notoriously snap so easily), but it's still a far cry from forged steel. The 6" clamp I just got in the mail from Wilton is rated for 6600 lbs of clamping force. Try that with the Craftsman, and it will bend and twist.

The copper coating prevents slag from sticking to the threads of the screw when they are used as welding clamps. I have 2 of them with copper and two without. They are the best welding clamps in my garage.

My wife just texted me that my C-Clamp arrived. Apparently the new owner of the house we sold forwarded it to our new address. Guess I need to reimburse him for shipping ;)

Update: added pic

I never did get a clamp, so I'm somewhat disappointed.
