UPDATED: With Pics / Winter Damage

I had my floor professionally done with epoxy last summer and the contractor finished the approach/threshold with paint. I then removed an inch of the expansion joint and filled with Quikcrete patch to make a smooth transition. Winter in northern IL has been hard on it. The Quikcrete did not last and cracked down the middle. The paint also cracked where the concrete was patched underneath. Please advise what you think would work in the future and if my two year professionally installed epoxy warranty would apply for the cracking to the paint. I will try to load pics later.
Thank you.

Freeze thaw.
When you repair it, leave a joint and fill it with a flexible urethane caulk.

Marrying two rigid materials where there is movement can be an issue.

I don't mean to be unduly negative but I'm seeing signs of significamt movement. No patching or floor covering material is capable of dealing with this.

I agree with that crack in the middle. That entire apron went into two and there is no prevention for that. Now that it has cracked, I would grind the entire piece, repair with epoxy and recoat with a pigmented urethane topcoat over epoxy.

I have had the crack ground down and patched professionally. Then my wife closed the garage door on the wet paint. It was my fault I should have unplugged the opener. So after several attempts of not mixing in hardner well enough I recoated the entire approach with Polygem Epoxy. I also filled the expansion joint with Sikaflex self-leveling joint filler. Hopefully keeping garage water run-off out of the expansion joint will minimize garage floor movement.

Re: Winter Damage "Update"

Even with my expansion joint sealed with sikaflex and a somewhat milder winter my damage is worse this year. Even worse than paying $200 to have it "professionally repaired" is living with the unsightly cavities for 5-6 months a year. It seems to crack in December and does not warm up until May to fix.

I need advice on repairs or covers for the apron 10"x16' that would cost under $200 and not something that is a two part mix that seem impossible for me to figure out. Would an aluminum threshold or 12"x16' race deck tiles work as a cover.

I found in other posts that epoxy beyond the garage threshold is a mistake in the north and it sure appears that way.

I got similar problem. When ground freezes up my driveway moves 2" up compare to garage apron, when it warms up it goes back to be leveled. I was told it is due to the poor soil preparation under driveway and would be very costly to fix.

I originally called elite-crete-midwest.com who referred me to substrateconcrete.net which eventually used polygem.com #2089 Pearl Gray - 3 Gallon Kit - Epoxy Coating Light Grey Fast-Set Cold-Cure Epoxy Base Coat.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any other questions.

I have resolved to grind the approach off and either leave bare, put down a non-epoxy based concrete paint for easy touch up. On an off the wall thought maybe just screw it and cover with Race Deck.

What is the best tool to buy or rent to make removal in a small area best?

Should I seal the bare concrete because this looks like an annual problem?

Should I just use concrete paint? I have trouble with bubbles under what I grind and re-epoxy coat.

Should I put a 12" by 16' Race Deck strip to cover?

Thanks for advise in advance.
