Was wondering if anyone has a wireless thermostat installed? I'm trying to find something that would let me control the heat in the garage from my PC.

I was looking at some yesterday on E-Bay, they were around $320. I'm sure there would be cheaper ways to do it if you were good with computers and networking. I also didn't dig too deep, I found those ones and decided at even half that price it was too expensive for me.

I don't like any of the ones available so I decided to make my own.

I don't see it in the specs at the linked location, but how low can that thermostat be prorgrammed to go?

Not sure - I plugged 40 into the online schedule and it took the number.

>Those are a problem waiting to happen.
You could expound on that if you like. Ours has been working fine for nearly a year and it's working better than the Honeywell it replaced. They use the Honeywell display types here at work and those seem good, but HD didn't have one with WiFi.

do they have them that would work with a 220v heater, like the daytons?

Worked wonderful. It made it easy for me to put the thermostat where I actually wanted to put it.

Well, unless you bought out the remainder of Home Depots 10/2 and 10/3 stock for $100 because they decided to not carry it by the foot anymore. =)

So, do you have wifi out in the garage? My garage is so far away from the house and we live in the boonies, so no wifi out there. It is a heck of a cool idea though. I like.
What I don't like is heaters that are set up for line voltage thermostats. I don't know why some are like that. I have a Sunstar radient tube heater that is line voltage. I should have just gone with a relay, but didn't since the relay and the thermostat were about as expensive as the line voltage tstat. I wish I would have relayed it now, since it doesn't like outside wall mounting as well as my old one did, and I will probably have to relocate...which means running cable instead of a little thermostat wire. Dangit!

i have wifi in my garage, garage is about 15-20ft from the house.. the thermostat would be on the wall in the garage nearest the house.. i pick up the signal with my phone when i'm in the garage.

have you tried a long range antennae and using an old wifi router as a bridge?

I just had Comcast run another coax line to my garage so I could have TV and internet. Then I convinced them that I shouldn't have to pay twice as much to have two modems. If you are in an are which has comcast call them up, They are pretty easy to work with if you call enough times to find the right person.
