Wiring and outlet question

This will be my first time to wire a building, so bear with me -

When I have my electrical outlets and lighting planned, should I go ahead and mount the boxes where I want them, then run my wire?
I have not even moved my power over yet, but trying to figure out what I can do until then
(meanwhile waiting on concrete to cure to put the floor coating on)

That's what I was thinking - plus - if I get the ones with the hold-down clamps inside to hold the wire it looks like it would be a little easier to keep things in place while pulling wire.

Often I pull the wire and leave loose at both ends. It depends. I usually put the box up, just for a target as said. But not always. Start drill some holes and pulling cable.

I wouldn't use the clamps on the box to hold the wire as you pull, put a staple with in 6" of the box.

Make sure also you have about 6" of wire in the box. You will end up cutting it back a bit when you wire the outlets / switches but it is always easier to do that then trying to find the wire stretcher at your local hardware store.



*note there is no such thing as a wire stretcher. Just messing around.

Why don't you pick up a DIY wiring book. If this is your first time it should answer a lot of questions.

I have seen the boxes mounted, and a single run of wire pulled and cut at each box. Easier than running box to box.

Mark locations/heights.
Box everything.
Drill.
Pull wire.
Staple everything back.
