A few weeks ago I picked up a compressor for the garage. The PO had taken it apart into it's 3 parts for transportation in his vehicle. Before I put it all back together I wanted to be sure that the motor ran or if I was going to need to get it rebuilt. When my friend and I tried to wire it up we realized that we didn't know how. It seems that this motor is not like the ones that we have seen before. The motor has 4 black wires labeled 1,2,3 and 4 along with 2 red wires. From what I can see there where only 2 wires coming into the motor from a Definite Purpose Control. So I was hope someone could give me some guidance on how this is to be wired so I don't do any damage. I have attached a drawing of the wiring I have and pictures of the motor.

Motor is a Leland Faraday 3 HP, 115/230volt, 1750 RPM.

Thanks

Check the nameplate on the motor. It usually has the wiring diagram for high and low volages.

It has been taken off by the PO. I think I may have found it online last night. The only thing I am still unsure of is the red wires that are in the motor. They are unlabeled. I believe they are to the capacitors. So I am leaning to line 1 and a red to power, line 4 and red to power, line 2 and 3 together for 220v. Thanks

Usually the windings in a dual voltage motor will be in parallel for the high voltage and series for the low voltage. If you haven't changed the connections you could call the prev. owner and ask what voltage it was running on.
