Wiring for overhead lights

The framing for my new garage has just been finished. I'm doing most of the wiring myself but am not sure of how to wire my overhead lights. I'd rather they be "direct wired", rather than have a plug running to a receptacle I'd mount on the truss.

If they are direct wired, I'm guessing I just can't run the Romex into the box of the light. Can I use a strain relief like I'd do if using a metal box for wall receptacles?

What would be the proper NEC way to do this? NEC 2017 in my area. Will be inspected by the county.

What are your recommendations for direct wire vs plug into receptacle?

Thanks.

Normal NMB clamp in a KO. What type of fixtures? I mean we can assume 4' LED which ideally would wire in from the top. 2 NMB cables are allowed in one clamp. Or you could use the ends but remember that the NMB has to be protected and protected well unless you are closing in the ceiling. If not, consider conduit if you don't want to use cords. MC has the same requirements as NMB.

Another detail you left out was hanging or surface mount? I'm assuming you weren't planning on hanging them but the question lingers.
