If you keep the romex up tight against the post you can maintain the 1 1/4" requirement since your girts are 1 1/2" thick. Common practice and I passed inspection with no issues.

If you're worried about it passing an inspection, the only people who you should be asking are the local code officials who will be doing the inspecting.

But it's common practice where I'm at for the reasons mentioned, looping it behind the post is much faster than drilling a 3/4" hole thru a 6 or 8" post
