Yes, the enclosure is likely a starter/heater relay circuit which is not needed with a VFD.

The three phases of the motor get wired direct to the VFD. There should not be anything between the VFD's output and Motor's wiring.

how does these things deal with emergency stops ?

I would assume they are the same as the slightly better ones I am familiar with, where there should be 2 terminals that need to be connected for it to run. If you don't use an e-stop then they get jumpered, otherwise put the nc e-stop between them.

E-stop will always be quick-stop if I recall correctly, a slower stop can be programmed for the "regular" stop circuit.

Mine has a remote control panel at an arms length reach. It controls the speed along with start/stop. The VFD can be programmed for acceleration and deceleration time. I believe mine is programmed for 3 second of deceleration.

It will stop in 3 seconds but not at the highest RPM (ie 3000 RPM). You need a VFD with a braking resistor to accomplish that. The 120VAC L510's aren't setup to use an external braking resistor.

VFDs built in E-Stop is typically Coast which instantly kills power to the motor. It can actually take longer to stop than a normal controlled stop depending on how that is set up.
