Wiss scissors

I have broken my favourite household scissors.
It's a pair of US made Wiss scissors and I think they are maybe 30 years old.

The outside ring of the plastic bushing has broken off.

I hope there is a service part for it, but it's probably easier to replace it.

I find that I'm a bit sentimental about this pair of scissors.:dunno:
A long time ago, when I was just a kid, my father brought a sample of some scissors home from work. It was a 3-piece set with two scissors, this one and a smaller one.

I can remember that I was impressed with the quality and feel of the scissors. I thought the smaller pair would be ideal to use for building model-kits, so I confiscated them.:D

Years later, when I was moving from home, I persuaded my mother to give me these household scissors for my new home.
I have used/abused them for all sorts of things.

Just recently I realized they where made in the US. In my country(The Netherlands) most good quality scissors are from Germany(Solingen) or England(Sheffield).

So that is why I think when I broke them today I got a little bit sentimental about them.

Thank you for reading!

Jasper

I love my heavier scissors, Heritage. Got them from Harry Epstein a couple years ago. They remind me of the ones my grandma always had.

I liked them so much I ended up with 3 different sizes. The medium is in my desk drawer here, the smaller ones are in the kitchen drawer and the larger ones are in my shop.

Those Wiss scissors look EXACTLY like a pair of made-in-USA Fiskars I've had for about thirty years as well, except for imprints and color. I've never seen the blue-handled Wiss one, but I'm sure you can find a replacement orange-handled Fiskars pair on eBay without too much work.

I've never noticed, or even looked for, a plastic bushing, to tell the truth.

Interestingly, all (or almost) the Fiskars I see here nowadays are made in China. But when I'm in Finland on business once or twice a year all of the Fiskars are still Finnish-made.

You can still buy some made in Finland Fiskars at various places, including Walmart.
