Wood Filler?

I'm looking for a non-shrinking wood filler that'll take paint (not stain).
It's been so long since I've done any woodworking that they don't even seem to make the stuff I used to use. But they do make a wide array of wood fillers from a lot of manufacturers. Could you guys recommend one that won't shrink or pop our and is paintable. I'll be using it to repair defects and countersinks in CDX plylwood.

If you are going to paint, I normally just mix sawdust and glue to make a paste and use this.

Non-shrink limits you to polyester products like Bondo, or epoxy products like JB-Weld. I prefer the latter.

I used the normal "wood filler" on a vanity that I wanted to paint. The vanity had sawkerfs in the plywood to make it look like shiplap. I scored the lines with a nail before filling. The filler went on well and sanded down fine. I scuffed the surface and painted.

OK. Three or four months later, the kerfs started telegraphing through the paint. Apparently the filler continued to shrink. Next time I will use drywall spackle.

Regular old Bondo brand body filler. We sell it daily for just that purpose.

I've used both bondo and the sawdust & glue method, depending what I had available, both with success

3M makes a yellow bondo sold with red catalyst. When mixed it's the color of pine or oak. Many millworks repair new work with standard bondo and if stain grade they will use the yellow stuff.

I make my own out of the gray stuff with yellow pigment. I can't see using any spackle or drywall products. I recently found the old wood filler that smells like toluene. It works well but I still prefer the yellow or standard bondo (auto body filler sold under many names).

Bondo body filler works great on paint grade plywood, but mix it a little hot so it sets up w/o being sticky.
