LOL. I saw it too, and assumed that autocorrect couldn’t handle remaining [backspace backspace...] tenon ingredients [backspace backspace ...] TENONING.

Unfortunately, I'm not that smart (as I've shown in several of my error corrected posts :( ). I actually searched for a "Delta tensioning jig" thinking there might be another tool I never heard of lurking out there. Google set me straight right quick.

Had to take a 2 plus week hiatus on woodworking to add a new item to the garage....it's taking up my side of the garage until I get it running. It's a 1931 Ford model AA 1 1/2 ton. It was my grandfather's and bought it back from the person he sold it to 8 years ago. I've already replaced the plugs, coil, wires, diff fluid, oil pan gasket (painted the pan as well). Am now waiting on the starter to get checked out. I can't wait to drive 30-40 mph in it [emoji16].

I finally got to woodwork this week though. Before getting the model AA, I was able to make a few new panels for the back. This week I got a lot done. I got the faces of the front pieces trimmed back to give depth to the pieces. The vertical pieces are trimmed back further for a nice shadow effect.

Next I chamfered the legs, sanded all of the end pieces and put a coat of seal coat on. I sanded it again and epoxied the ends together. They are currently in clamps and drying. 4006db418fc8db702fcf248eb79b39a3.jpg9d20a6543e09863618c1d2c09571a040.jpgc8e384c2b8e90e16aeb5e709077ec60b.jpg9141acdc883f7c92c875359fdba9d401.jpg01d92c51280f1112e9089b0509d44390.jpg436f17a8ad1a1ae619675a6a0dba0a2a.jpg14cf148c8aff49ca0250301554b47337.jpgb5bca6377d06d6d653673779ba9dc28e.jpgc2c05531ef53aabe836a7516a22d8390.jpg

1--The truck is fantastic! I learned to drive in a Model B pickup.

Thanks! I couldn't be more excited to have it. I would go with my grandparents to Iowa 80 Truckers Jamboree in Walcott IA with the truck for nearly 20 years straight. I plan to take it next year with my family. I was the age of my oldest when I first went :)

Seven hills - thanks!

Before epoxying the whole case together I went ahead and pre finished the rear panels. For finish I am using tried and true varnish oil. It's thick like honey but applies pretty easy. It's a rub in finish and a little goes a long way. Thin coats for sure. I also put a chamfer on the rear panels at the joints. It adds a little something but also helps to hide any possible imperfections.

I also fixed a spot I messed up on the lower front rail. I accidentally drilled too close to the front edge. After the front of the vertical pieces were shaved on the front this really showed the hole I had made. To help fix the hole, I got thin strips from a cut off and glued them in filling the hole. With most of the hole actually being covered it looks like a knot now. After finish I am sure it will look better and not noticeable.

Today I epoxied the case together. Over all it went pretty well. Some joints weren't as perfect as I'd like bit it's all good and the drawer holes are square. dea42d9cf8287920d29a643db6f0c8a0.jpg7a7492b2128827d614282b22998695f6.jpg2a6e4d05bc782156cf85b5f3684cd1b7.jpg76053bf64e7640cfda0962386c765029.jpgcf4379590ced267f61ed6cd459e73814.jpg8afb8330b09d4f709541a757be80377d.jpg9d7f22703e00476df2a7bb443c8303d0.jpg0a09947ab4b1359c66814e8eb5bd8b33.jpg2ee2d7f534fba3e97d09b5370b56007d.jpg

Carcass is all glued up and time to work on the drawers. I got the pieces rough cut out and am now deciding what grain I want showing for the drawer fronts. I managed to get a piece big enough to have the fronts be a continuous grain pattern. Thoughts opinions? The piece had some cracks in it so I filled those with black epoxy. These somewhat sorta blend in with the natural spalting. d60188641a9ab1147ac91d8192a8d3a7.jpg144d777adbf4283c81a122aad8c414b2.jpg257d92a7e937d245347e470bfccb3605.jpgaa12015c39a0d0e72121267b1b74bfd8.jpgc905f9a427bef1c0f322f73c2663686d.jpg20f273c0993489c56df9a8c90ff50044.jpg

The black makes the repairs stand out.

I'd agree if those are in the final stages, but on the other hand if there is a lot of epoxy on there that is going to get sanded off leaving only thin black lines in the cracks (as I suspect) then I think you did well in matching the spalting.

I like the first lay out for the bottom 4 drawers and the second layout for the top three. Can't tell for sure from the photos if you could get away with mixing like that but it sorta looks like you could? If you have to keep top and bottom the same then I'd probably go with the second photo. Though I would miss that swirl on the middle left drawer in the first photo, it reminds me of the red spot storm on Jupiter. It's not quite as nice on the other side on the right middle drawer front of the second photo. But sometimes I see stuff that sane people don't, especially when I'm up typing when I should be in bed.:(
Regardless, keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us.

Ez- I agree it does but I am fine with that. In some things you want to hide it other times drawing your attention to it can work too. With the spalting already there I think it will help to blend it in. I believe I am going to go with this configuration. This side was my initial choice. I had this side jointed at my wood supply store on Saturday. The other side has my registration marks and I will transfer those to this side and get the pieces planed down to thickness. Just jointing this side took away a lot of the bleeding from the epoxy. d0fe6e95ed8bd55e398d621bfe44148e.jpg8f55fbd116fd5951f89493d11a5b8f6c.jpg3fac3aadf70574bd14329713553dd6db.jpg

Wow! That is gonna look fantastic! What are you using here? Did that come from a slab?

The wife is looking for me to build something similar to this for the living room:

https://www.restorationhardware.com...productId=prod16380095&categoryId=cat10180130

I am trying to figure out how to go about it. Originally I was thinking of building a cabinet box and wrapping everything in planks. However, there is an option for a great price for some reclaimed oak 2x8's locally. However, I dont foresee them to be square enough for doors to work well on. What are your opinions?

Woodworking is about taking natural material (wood) that is not square, straight, flat and turning it into something that IS square, straight, flat, and useful.

Not always. It can also be about embracing the natural and making it work in our environment.

But in this case you may be right.

Thanks! I think it is maple but not entirely sure. A local Sawyer around me had a few of these boards and I picked one up. Managed to be the right size to get all of the drawer fronts from.

I did a lot of planing the last two days. I decided I am going to do half blind dovetails for the fronts and backs. I planed the fronts and backs for 3/4" and the sides to 1/2". I then started to size the drawers. The bottom and middle rows and cut to height but not length yet. The top still needs height and lengths cut. I'll finish that on Thursday evening/night and I will go to my friend's house on Friday and use his Omni jig to cut the dovetails. If I didn't want to get this done as soon as possible I would attempt them by hand. I have never done half blind dovetails yet.

I also started on the top pieces. I got them rough cut to length and jointed and edge and face. I filled a few knot holes in the drawer pieces and bottom part of a top piece with epoxy and letting that cure.

It took a little bit but I think I nailed the continuous grain pattern! Joinery is up next. Plan is for half blinds.

To get the pieces lined up I had to make registration marks. I lined up the marks on the sled and cut away. Perfect alignment. cb47d47250450be23b3ecd1bafa6ce58.jpg61cfcd3a47e1e997753889f557ced287.jpg9bdb16379350b73850173bcec1359e59.jpg7eb96e9dc5538c0cb5ee754774bb3bf1.jpg1d5af155faf2836b434ad2adb2ea01c4.jpg

Thanks everyone. I'm really happy with how it is turning out so far.

My plan was to do the half blind dovetails on a friend's Omni jig but he couldn't get it calibrated and then he went on vacation so I am doing them by hand. Have never done half blinds so I decided to do a test piece. Didn't turn out too bad for a first ever attempt. My second attempt I forgot to cut the pin side with the hand saw until after I started chiseling them out [emoji849]. Still look fine. Don't have a pic of that one though. I am going to start dovetailing tonight or tomorrow. A Sharpening session is in store first. fb37622908540224dffe4e7305a4882c.jpg

Is there any more Made in the USA clamps for glue ups anymore? Bar or pipes, don't matter to me. I have old Jorgenson clamps from when they were made in the USA, but need more clamps for some big projects coming up. Also, over the years, many of mine have up and left...
EDIT: Or just recommend a good set of clamps, the longer the better. I'm trying to become a 'global economy' guy.

Aren't the Dubuque aluminum bar clamps still made in the US? I don't have any just seem to recall they were still US made.

Started the drawers today. I got 1 1/2 done. The ambrosia maple is certainly softer than the maple sides. I cracked the left front one but I think my glue fix will essentially cover it up. The rest should be hidden in the grain.

The half blinds turned out pretty well. The rear dovetails on the first one I cut too close to the waste line of the pins and they are definitely too small. Nothing a shim can't fix. The second drawer turned out "better" (last pic).

I'm going to blame it on me making the switch to midnights tonight. Stayed up as late as I could last night and my whole day had been all sorts of screwed up. I actually messed up during the layout process on the ends of the boards and had to redo them. Those marks will only be visible on the rear joints.

Five out of seven drawers are dovetailed. Almost finished. Just the bottom drawers to go. After that I need to route in the bottom groove. 0b97ab872345afa28541af4a5db62437.jpg702186422d5d34c3e1281f54a9a4b8e4.jpgcf91cf21e2a8aef3a3d16dda4a18f9dc.jpg

Thanks EZ.

All the drawers are dovetailed. I started to route the groove for the drawer bottom but it got too late and I stopped for the night. I think I'm done doing dovetails for a while. Here is a sample of the waste. I'm pretty sure I swept up some of it already so it isn't all of it. Gripper for size comparison. 8fbde2c3205906adf630e33f5888cfc0.jpg686b5816291f4bfc2d3aad422141001e.jpg28679a4c60ec9b9e15c16b7d4a596cf1.jpg8d01e4b4587192aa7db0c3e6496e74b1.jpga15272e58104a6e89c45da37c6e05d74.jpg

The table saw is very fast on drawer bottom grooves.
I had thought about it but the dresser is on top of the saw right now and I still had access to the router table. It really only took a few minutes for the two drawers I did. Plus I think it helps me slow down and keep everything oriented correctly.

Best finish for highly textured wood?

I have a couple doors made from distressed pine, with deep grain. I sprayed shellac on a smaller piece but I'm not really setup for that, and it didn't get all surfaces evenly.

Need something to get in the grooves without filling them.

rrich1- Those drawer fronts are gorgeous, and you did a great job on getting the grain patterns to match up continuously. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. I always admire your work.

Unruh- Love the sign, I may make my own version of that one!
