An excellent idea. I joined GJ in order to get ideas for the woodworking shop that I will be putting up in the back yard. I have been afraid to even mention hardwood floor in the garage build section.

Maybe you'd feel more comfortable if you posted your hardwood floor question in the "flooring" section?

I belong to some more specialized forums some of my work crosses into metal and woodworking and it fits in neither, a more inclusive forum would help.

Yes being that this is a higher traffic forum with a less focused population there will be the arguments over tools and newbie questions, but is that not the point? I see enough of that on my cnc forum arguing over feed rates and cutter profiles. Opinions happen.

If I can share a bit of knowledge or learn from someone its good.

all right, changing my vote. may as well keep all the hands-on hobbies in one spot. Let's bring on a WW forum!!

...now can we add a brewing/distilling and a guns/reloading forum too? Then I will be all set!!

I'm in favor of a WW section, although most of my woodworking talk is done at a WW forum and that wouldn't change; I'd just have to copy and paste projects here too!

I don't know the first thing about wood working but am interested in learning. I know there are WW specific forums out there but It would be nice to have a one stop shop here at GJ. I used to belong to many forums but it became overwhelming so I only participate here now. I vote yes!

I'll go against the grain (haha) and say no. There are very large, very popular sites dedicated exclusively to woodworking in all its permutations. I like GJ because it has a core focus of automotive/garage culture. And I'm a woodworker.
If I'm looking for info on any topic, I look in the largest repositories of that category of information. Woodworking - SMC or LJ. Vintage machinery - OWWM. I just wouldn't come to GJ for woodworking info. My 2 cents.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. That wasn't a specific question. Only an example of why I think that a WW forum would be beneficial.

That's why I replied to your post. If your project is about wood floors there's a place for it. If it's about a fabrication you're doing, there's already a place for it. If it's a question about a tool needed, there's already a place for it. If posters would do a little research before posting I pretty sure they'd find a section that's already available for them.

So what does GJ provide ? It gives the everyday guy, the professional and the DIYer a place to cover it all, and I mean all. How many times have you seen a question go unanswered ? Not very many, the guys/girls here have a vast amount of knowledge and willing to share that wide array of brain cells with people they have never met.

Personally, I believe including a woodworking sub-forum on GJ would greatly enhance and improve the amount of overflowing knowledge this place already has to offer.

Totally agree with these statements.

Thumbs up for a Woodworking sub-forum.

I guess they are too busy putting adds up everywhere instead of adding something of true value! LOL

I am with you on this topic. I just don't see the need to compete with other forums on too many subjects. When people ask about auto body, tractors, etc. I usually add a link to send them where they can get the best answers, resources, parts, and equipment. So many other forums can do so much better for most subjects not covered here that it seems a waste of resources to do not nearly as well.

WTH are you to say what is the best use of resources? Just as many people are out in their garage and barn woodworking as they are wrenching.
