I've been wanting to build one of these for quite some time. I have seen similar setups around, but this is my version.

I just picked up a small 36" metal brake of of C.L. I always have a need for the tool, but don't really want it out on my bench all of the time.

Here is the picture story of how it went.

Marked out the spot for the tubing to fit in, and drilled some holes.

Then I used my jigsaw to connect the dots.

Also drilled a hole all the way through and welded a nut on the back.

Starting to fab up the mount for the new brake.

Easy and quick to remove and change tools. I will be making a mount for my vise and bead roller tomorrow!

Looks great. You will find lots of tools you want to set up for it.
I recently did similar to my bench and am finding lots of tools to set up for it. People will give you a funny look if you tell them you "put a trailer hitch" on your bench.:)

I have yet to mount a trailer hitch to my bench, but I did mount one to the floor. I use the floor mounted trailer hitch to hold a winch that I drag dead vehicles into the garage with. I get the same kind of looks when I tell people.

This is a really cool idea! I also like the floor mounted trailer hitch for pulling the vehicles in with the winch. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us.

Yeah, I just couldn't find anything laying around the shop that I thought looked good and wouldn't get caught on my shirt. I will take care of that today.

Damn slick setup! I can see this as a great solution for those with small shops and bench space at a premium. Seldom used tools can live on a shelf until needed and then be securely mounted quickly for occasional use.

I have a vise, bead roller, small arbor press that I will be using it for. I also want to make a mount for a bench grinder(haven't bought yet). I am also designing a belt grinder that I'm sure would work perfectly for this.

I've got my shrinker/stretcher, pipe vise, and something else escaping my mind right now. My bench is well anchored and in front of the lift, so I can also use it for a winch to drag dead cars in.

Mine is mounted on the front, just under the work top so it is horizontal, just like a real trailer hitch. Tools just sit on a shelf with a length of 2" box mounted to em.

Nice Job! I have the same brake, I kicked it around for a year or so, then made a mount for it to sit on the left side of my 1 ton flatbed truck. Like yours, I can move it off the mount and store it, but if for some reason I need it out in the field, I can use it there as well.
I really need to get a bench heavy/strong enough that doesn't have wheels on it so I can use my tools in the shop better.

I slapped a little paint on the mount, to match the aluminum brake. Turned out pretty good. Sorry for the cell phone pics, but it takes too long to upload from the camera.

And a picture from the back side of the brake.

None of your pictures are working anymore. Did you change the address of them, move them to a different file, or remove them from photobucket?

It is such a tease reading the responses :lol_hitti

I hope you can post up the pictures!

Thanks,
Joe Zeppe:beer:

It looks like Photobucket changed their website links from i1040.photobucket to s1040.beta.photobucket. Lets see if this works:

My receiver mounts go the other way. It doesn't show to well in this picture of my workbench but if you look closely you can see it. The second pic shows were in store the accessories that I am not using on my press and you can also see the post for mounting stuff away from the bench. I have to decide where to mount the post and bolt it down one day.

Keep in mind I'm not the OP, just a reader trying to fix the links since he doesn't seem to be responding :)

Alan, I have a similar setup on mine, with two hitch receivers a little over 2' apart. I plan on making a two-post-mounted sheet metal brake, among others.
