RELIC would be good. Right it off in your tax as advertising :lol_hitti

But, :wtf: $200-00 a year.:wtf: Here in VIC we buy the plates outright and just have the standard yearly registration fee etc.

Yep! RELIC is gone, but RELICS is avaiable.

personalised plates incure a one off $180 fee then normal reg. but custom plates are killers. I already owned the plates on my trailer YNOT12 & plenty of people reckon I should get YNOTU2 because of my other forum sign ons.

We have a few other special type plates available, even corperate when you can design your own background, but if combined with a special plate, bingo they get ya there too :wtf:

OK!
RELIC 1 & RELIC 7 are gone, but the rest are available.
RELIC 6 (that almost sounds like RELICS :lol_hitti)

Well get RELIC. I still like COMFY after reading Larry's Article he called in a Comfortable Work Truck. Get to work on it. Hmm look out Dad he will want the Keys to the Rod next. V8 Supercars :spit: they are just race cars with a Holden or Ford Badge.

Oooooooo ****** !!

Welllllllllllllllllllll, I've been pretty busy.
Apart from the usual goings on in the shop, we have had Christmas & New Year thrown in (belated seasons greeting to all)

We shut for 2 weeks at work, though I was very busy for the first week at home trying to finish one of the 1000 projects I have ignored for the last 5 years (since we built our joint)
I finally finished this

004-3.jpg

Back to the main task in hand
I spent the 2nd week of my holidays back at work, trying to get a little more done to the Shop Truck. The doors where locked (which annoyed a few, but in all reality, I wasn't supposed to be there :wtf:

While I have the foof gutters in, I do not have a pic of them (sorry!)

I have started on the back of the cab
because the cab is actaully channeled an 1" I have changed the bead at the rear of the cab. The first pic below shows the new bead before turning it 90* at only 3/4" wide, while the other side is original at 2" wide & yet to be done

001-5.jpg

The first side cut & ready for welding in

002-5.jpg

Tacked off

003-2.jpg

Welded up

004-2.jpg

A close up of my ruff holiday welding :(

007-1.jpg

Cleaned up ready for final planishing

008-1.jpg

Second side in as well as the centre section made from new steel

005-1.jpg

The top filler piece welded in

001-6.jpg

a quick pic from inside

004-1.jpg

Most of the steel bracing is now gone with the beginnings of the main floor structure now going in.

002-6.jpg

I have started the apprenice on learning body work this year which includes gas welding, so he has already started the L/H front fender repairs.
I will attempt to spend a day a week on it for this year, so while training for the apprentice, we may get a little more done
We have Aussie day here tomorrow, so some beer, a BBQ & some beer , but when back at work on Thursday, I have written up the Sop Truck as being on the Job Schedule for the next 2 days  as we have some big weeks coming up, I figured I'd get both some training & work done of it when we could.

I must be a sucker, as I have just purchased 2 "flat Packed" COE's for future projects. ( 2 cabs cut up...... who knows why??) Though I was told by a long time Rodder that I would probably be the only one game enough to take on something like that :wtf::wtf:

CCT2dJwBWkKGrHqMOKowE0fm6Y-ZGBNKsD54Bw_12.jpg

I also was the highest bidder on a Chevy C20 Pickup with a 6.2 Diesel as our temp. shop truck until this is built, even though I was the highest bidder, it wasn't high enough. a Nice Pickup but he wants far more (& it was R/H drive !)
Spose they are pretty cheap with all you Americans, but to have one R/H drive, Air etc with nice paint was just too much to resist.

CCS10GQ2kKGrHqQOKjwEzm9B1-qIBNKmnUzhC_3.jpg

Now to another story:
I was on the phone to rego the other day (on a unrelated matter) and questioned if I could go from my approved 4.9 ltr on straight gas to a 6.2 ltr Diesel, well, to my surprise, I was told yes. He said I would probably be sorry if I didn't as I am going to use the Shop Truck for towing etc. The head man told me to think about it & get back to him if I wish to change my paper work

I will try to remember to take some pics later this week.
I have also re-built the 'B' Pillars (AGAIN!!) as once we started the final measuring on the floor was done (yes, a mate came in for a day to hold the "dumb" end of the tape fore me) I fould the doors where a little tight in some places, so more changes there.

Happy Aussie Day for tomorrow :bounce::bounce::bounce:
(testing the beer now, it should be alright...............if there is any left :lol_hitti)

6.2 Diesel ? :headscrat Whats that out of ?

any Chevy/GMC of the same era of the Pickup shown. They are pretty common in the US. There is a few here, though in RHD a little harder to find :(
A mate has a slgihtly later GMC & reckon once I get one, especially for towing, I will not look back :thumbup:
I can import one pretty cheap, but not in RHD, though one would make a good donor vehcile for the shop truck

Project looks good with the progress and that Tempory shop truck will fill the gap.
I have not bought the Chevy..............yet!! He does want a bit much for it, though it seems to be an honest truck!

I do get it as it is no longer like Bathurst in the old day when the Races where really based on streetcars.

HRT have been getting custom built bodyshells/drivetrain components for bathurst since before the HR monaro... so todays not really much different to that in my eyes...

moffat campaigned an series 1 rx7 with a 6 speed gearbox and 13b... nothing like that ever rolled off the mazda production line... it's always been shell racing at the upper end of the field

Nice progress on the cab. And if you do pick up that temp truck I may be interested once you're through with it as I've been on the lookout for a good older C20.

In the early days of Bathurst what they raced was nothing like the V8 super Cars of today as in the early days what they raced you could buy of the showroom floor. Hence the expression Win on Sunday, Buy on Monday.
What Moffat raced was a car off the showroom floor GTHO's after all came off the production line that way ready to race.

That is just what the V8 Super car is these days simply a shell and that is all that resembles what you look at on the showroom floor.

So you have seen the Diesel light. Interesting to know you can do these changes to you project with not much hassle from your roads dept.

WHAT ??
(ya better check post number 12 of this thread!)
I have always wnated to run a V8 diesel, just the cost has stopped me.
I've been keen on them since my 4x4 days (many years ago!)
Just as I have been very keen on 5th wheelers, but that is a way off!!

My Temp. shop truck has now been relisted  so I spose someone will be getting that one :(:(:(:(:(
Actually I could have driven it around for a while & just dropped all the running gear in the Shop Truck.................Pickup! :lol_hitti

Went back to post 12. It was the cost of the V8 Diesel that held you back so what is the problem this time ? As for the Temp Shop Truck it sounds and looks like it was to good a truck to pull apart. Why not just look for a V8 Diesel and gearbox and be done with.

Oh by the way to see the Diesel light you would be running a Diesel and not just contemplating it. The MPG's are what I like.

.

really???

a 1970 xy came with:
Engine
351c.i. V8 NASCAR four-bolt block Lucas fuel injection 600 bhp
Transmission
Four-speed Top Loader gearbox, Holman-Moody rear axle
Suspension
Heavier front anti-roll bar; up-rated front coil springs & shock absorbers.
Body
Lightweight bodyshells
Wheels
8-10 inch wheels
???

straight off moffat's own website, those are the specs for his GT.

his boss mustang featured:

Engine
Boss 302c.i. four Weber carburettors or Cleveland 351c.i. fuel injection 490bhp.
Transmission
4-speed top loader gearbox, 3.9-5.1:1 Locker differential.
Suspension
Heavy duty, coil spring front, leaf spring rear.
Body
Fibreglass panels
Wheels
8-10 inch alloy wheels
Other
Heavy duty brakes

now the only time a 351 clevo was put in a stang, it wasn't THAT shape of mustang, and it ran carbies, not injection...

but your right, straight off the showroom floor :lol_hitti

I know a place that could help you with the Electric motor :lol_hitti here in Castlemaine.

yep! seen it (the front doors need to be long :wtf:)

Nothing done at all :(:(:(:(
I lost my apprentice 6 weeks ago, so any down time has been away from work just to breathe :mad:
I did phone the Rego department yestarday with some changes.
I'll see if I can get what I need when the paperwork comes through, but it looks like it's back to the Clevo but no LPG!!
I'll make my own tanks for petrol with the crossover taps etc (changed from the cab of course
This will keep the build much simpler & more importanlty.........Cheaper!!
not sure how I will get around the now narrow tracks because the cab has ended up 4" wider that what was set out, but after a discussion with rego also on that, I might get away with just a change of rims (if they will allow it :wtf:) I will start looking soon. They can not be smaller than 17" because of the front brakes & I still want steelies
As mentioned, I have no time for nothing at the moment, especially having missed the recent Nationals :(

Looking Good. Any info on what you have done ?

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr??

By the previous pics you can see I have not only got the rear of the cab in primer, but all the braces are both glued & welded in place. when they where done, I popped 2 pack sealer on both the inside & outside. As you can see, the out side is now in Hi Fill primer.

Added some floor bracing & been tweaking the door pillars with some more bracing in the door frames & the rear doors. Started to straighten the roof gutters (they are made up of left over gutter bits, so lots of odd shapes.
Set up the front seats. Cut down the rear seat back in height (waiting on some sliders to make the seat base of the rear frame so it slides forwards & tilts to access the batteries & storage)
This pic is prior to the rear seat back being cut down so the base can end up at the same height as the front (the front seats will also have about the same 4" removed from the tops.

001-8.jpg

Trying to sort some other rims, but I now have found a wider diff from a Galaxy which will suit much better.

Started on the new dash & It looks like the air con unit will fit without firewall mods

044LowerDash.jpg

Repaired one of the 4 door bottoms:................ 3 to go :(

002-7.jpg

Now setting up the doors. Started repairing the door hinges (new pins etc)
removed the door skins & tweaking the hinges to align the dovetails etc. I've got some new door latches ordered to which I will modify to have solenoids on all 4. already have all new dovetails (male & female) door bumpers etc.
Setting up the bailey channels guides (repair rear guides, but I have to make front ones for each door) searching for some good scissor window regs (power) already have new outer door handles. I will be adding bracing in the doors also.

Also been looking at how I'm going to do the door seals. I'm going to use pinch weld seals around the whole of each door, so as I have already allowed for them in the floor bracing, I think I'm pretty happy on how I'm going to get them to work.

I'm not sure if I have mentioned it before or not, but I have had the LPG stuff removed from my Build application with the rego department. I'm going to keep it simple & run just petrol. I can make my own tanks etc & will not have problems finding some one to install & sign off on the LPG. (it will save a packet of $$ also )

Thanks.
It's not quite the"usual" build for me.
It is being build as a heavy duty Pickup (compared to my 'A' Model anyway) with the plans to tow our closed in car hauler with hopefully one day a 5th wheeler (if I can ever get the first part done that is :shocking::shocking:) Just keeping it simple with stuff like the RHS for the floor bracing & other basic inclusions.

As I said earlier. Looking good and thanks for the update.

I can also understand the drama with LPG and the decision to go straight petrol. We can blame our Govt for making that a harder road to travel specialy when they want us to go green and put out less carbon.

I was keen to go the LPG way, but the cost of the extra tank (I want to travel long distances) but especially the fact when building a car you always have to mock up, pull appart, set up again etc etc. the LPG has to be completely installed by a certified installer & if any part of it is removed, it has to be refitted by them & re-signed off. There is of course NO REBATE if there is no rego on it :headscrat:headscrat
There is no LPG installer within cooee of here, so with the extra $$ of building the motor to suit (mind you, not a lot of difference to building for unleaded) I figured not only was the diesel way out, so was the LPG (it's all about the MONEY now!!) your right.......... no incentive to go green, especially when both the LPG & diesel are both going up in leaps & bounds :shocking:

Oh!
a little more done today:

A bit of a ******, there is some poor repair work on the L/H fender (lots of it really) this spot is only one of many to fix.
The contour gauge has been set from the R/H side.

003-4.jpg

A bit of tweaking & it's about there. Reverse curves are sooooo much fun :lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

005-3.jpg

I continued carrying out repairs, but still many to go.
The wheel opening was like a wave with bends of 1/2" out each way :wtf:

006-3.jpg

The right hand side fitted, but it too still has work to go.

As I have said many times - Looking good.

I have to say it is disapointing not to be going LPG and enviromentaly friendly but then when we have to use registered installers that do every thing sometimes they have no idea that many Rodders like to do things perfectly. It is a shame we can not fit up everything ourselves and then just not have it signed off and the minor details finished by an installer.
Next we will all be trying hard to be as green as possible but paying Carbon tax so I wonder about the incentive to go green.

I best not add any more to that conversation as it becomes political

That was bad luck with that front fender but I am sure we will see your craftsmanship fix and improve

Oh! by the way................ a little more done.

008-4.jpg

Started the rear guards, ruffed out (but plenty to go) ready to cut the running board section off:

007-3.jpg

Also removed the same from the other side, formed the edges & corners & re-shaped for fitting to the front.

002-9.jpg

I forgot to take a pic of what is left of the R/H rear guard all cut up, but I have plenty of work to go with new patches also to be made, so I'm sure I'll get time for more pics.

Now..........................Where were we??????????????

Arrrrrrrr yes............ now to make a patch & fit it:

003-6.jpg

006-4.jpg

008-5.jpg

Well, it's kinda getting the look I want (the rear section to make now)

012.jpg

Repaired the rusty hole from a previous indicator and now the planishing begins :(
The old fender is pretty ruff still, so lots to go (& then I'll have to do it all again for the other side :(:(:(
of course once the main shape for the rear fender is done, I will still have to work out the flanged edge & do that (that can't happen until the bed is shaped)
