I wonder if the break away did you any good ? I guess the salt was to wet for you. Any news on the trip ? and how about some updates as to what is going on at work, found any new staff ? Hope all is well with you.

I hadn't been on GJ for several years, but this was one of the threads I was hoping had final progress pics updated...such a great project and incredible quality of work being done. Hopefully it's not fallen down behind the workbench...

Pretty sad really to think no one is keen to learn a trade and do this type of work any more.
I agree it's sad.
There is a whole lot more to be said on the subject, but this isn't the place.

To me, what's more sad is tons of people, like myself who pay to get training. The build is way to advanced for me to fathom, but I really appreciate watching and learning.

The project stalled as his work was so busy and he could not get staff to work for him. He would also be busy getting ready for the DLRA event at Lake Gairdner.

That's a shame Rod can't get staff, and the young kids to-day, I don't know what's up with them. I'm 84 and got intererested in metal finishing a few years ago, and am loving it. Have built a number of labor saving devices, (since I have back and hip problems).
Resotered a 1980 BMW and now trying to restore a 2000 GMC Crew cab that I saved from going to the wreckers. Lots of work both body, chassis, electrical, fuel and brakes.
I'll try to set up a thread soon.

I am now well aware he is as the salt. They are short on those doing the rules checks with vehicle inspections again and as I am aware he does this he will be busy and once back at work this topic and a reply will be well at the back of his to do list.

Nothing to do with 'young kids of today' and everything to do with location, location, location. Set up a business 3 hours drive from the nearest capital city in a town of around 1000people that exists almost solely to service the surrounding agriculture and your pool of labour becomes somewhat shallower.

When you say that if he moved to a more central location the cost of a workshop (rent etc.) then out grows the the business so never going to be a win win situation for him. The vicious circle.

Correct on both counts. Like many I would like to see an update on that truck.
He does have a very good business as I see him at many of the swap meets and he is always busy with the tools he sells.

Good to know he's ok...any idea if he ever finished this truck? I still drop in from time to time just to see if it ever got done!
