I also like the "Super Heavy-Duty workbench Leg System" on that page since it's designed to add 3/4" plywood for a storage shelf below.
I have a ratty old bench I built 12 years ago from a Menards kit using 2x4 frame and 2x6s for the top. The price was right at the time, and I've beat the hell out of it, but I never liked the construction of it. There's not a straight piece of lumber on the whole thing, makes it impossible to sit anything flat on the top, and lots of small parts fall between the boards. Might be time to replace it.
