I hope you found some better software. Requiring pictures to be hosted elsewhere is not cool, especially since most hosting companies are offering unlimited storage now and storage is dirt cheap these days. You can buy 1TB for about $100 today.
Looking foward to it, thanks for all the hard work. Happy New Year!
Not following you... We host images and have for years.
In that case I don't understand how to do it. I read several posts before I started including pictures and they all referred to other hosting sites, for large pictures.
Clever when you click the Post Reply button to reply to a post oooooooooooor when you start a new thread once you finish typing your post scroll down the page and you will see a button marked manage attatchments click on it and it will let you browse your pictures on your computer . Pic the pics you want then click upload once it is done uploading you can close the pop up window and scroll further down the main page where you wrote your post and there will be a second post button below the attatchments window.

Indeed, this site is rather stingy with space for pics. JPGS, which is the most common type have to be reduced to less than 79K to upload them to the site. I usually set the pic size to 800x600 and then I have to use the extreme file compression, and sometimes I have to load the pic in a second program that will compress it some more.
Otherwise, simply use the "Go Advanced" and then "manage attachments" and select and upload your files.

Cleaver click on my picture in the post above it gets bigger.

Ron that is a big pcture but Honestly on my laptop I have to scan side to side to see all of it . I havent gone in the house and looked on my 26" monitor in the house but then again I like it beter out here in the garage. With the right program you could probably get even that pictue low enough in KB's to fly here by compressing the file . I will also add that although I have a 20.0 cable connection and have no problems with a picture that size being inbeded the dialup guys just went to go make a sandwich and walk the dog while it opened
.
Rick
Ron I have no software issues like I said I can see yor pic and it loads fast for me with a 20.0 connection . I agree I enjoy the larger pictures but I also know several peaple who have no other decent option other than dialup due to location One of them Lives in Main and just managed to get a Darn Slow Line. after years of being stuck with dialup and She is actually one of the mods on another forum I belong to as wellas being an IT guru . I have to put the readers on from time to time to make out the fine details myself .

So do I understand correctly that you are not interested in improving the user experience? That's not an implied criticism. It's obviously your call, perhaps influenced by factors that you don't want to reveal.
We aren't rebranding the site... Just redesigning it... and adding more features.
Rcleaver, we use the standard vbulletin image hosting functionality. If you've been developing sites, I'm really surprised you haven't used it before. PM me, I'll walk you through it...
One of the great new features of the coming upgrade is that image size restrictions will be gone completely.

vbulletin is a marginal player.

Hey, will this mean that the search function will find posts from Free Parking again?![]()
Ummm... VB is the largest forum platform in the world.
What's with the pissy attitude man? If you aren't happy with the site, I'd be happy to give you your money back.![]()
Sorry, but I haven't encountered VB before. Can you provide a reference to support your claim that VB is the largest platform in the world. Seriously, I'd like to know.
As I said, I'm not trying to be pissy. Did you read my previous (edited) post?
Sure, check out Google Trends. As a developer, I assume you have an account? Vbulletin supports almost twice as many end clients (and therefore users) as the second highest rated package (phpBB). In my opinion, the only other package that offers a better user experience is the small AJAX based Vanilla. I love Vanilla... Unfortunately, however, it's not capable of handling the kind of traffic load we have.
In any case, we've had a lot of success with Vbulletin. They've done a great job with support and they are constantly making improvements. We hack ours quite a bit, but that also says a lot about flexibility.
OK. Now I understand. I was thinking phpBB was the largest, but it's only the largest among open source solutions (so they say).
Perhaps it was just a manifestation of my belief in open source. I'm on a crusade to rely on open source for everything.
Have you used phpBB? From a usability standpoint, it's... uhh... lacking. And they use the same attachment code (pretty much) as VB.
In any case, I think we are getting a bit off topic... and more than likely boring the masses.
Back to garages... Just wanted to let you fellas know that we are working hard to improve the joint. I think ya'll are gonna like the new design and functionality.
In any case, I think we are getting a bit off topic... and more than likely boring the masses.![]()
Nerds![]()
?E-tec I have been around here for a while but I also belong to another Shop forum and the rule there is attatch pics not imbed as we have quite a few members over there who are on dialup and it makes it hard on them by slowing things down quite a bit . I also agree that by attatching the pics we dont end up with multi quotes that take a full page simply due to every quote having every pic from the original post in them. I will add once you are used to attatching pics its really not that big of a deal to do it .

I must admit, the way everyone carries on about pics at the other site I would never dream of trying to throw a pic up for fear of doing the wrong thing and just being dogpiled! It sounded like a rather daunting task for a knuckle dragger like me!
