Can you show an end view of the new work? It looks like the 1 by material is sitting on the 2 by 2 ?

Or is it attached to the front of the 1 by?

Mm, I'll have to get a pic, but the 2x2 sits on top of the vertical boards, with the 1x6 sitting on top of that. I didn't router any notches or anything, just kept it simple.

I hate to say it, but paint might work better in this case. What I think would look GREAT is if you painted the pegboard white, and then stained the wood a nice dark colour, but that's a lot more work.
I completely agree!

Like I said,......................................................PAINT IT!

Wainscoting and interior trim work looks really good! It is going to make a superior improvement on the shop.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Had a bit of time today so I added the rest of the chair rail on the west wall. I also got all the cabinets and tools and workbenches back in place. Tomorrow I will pull out the main bench and lathe cart and finish the back wall. It feels so much nicer in here with real walls, much closer to the goal of the 'finished' look. I guess a new workbench and cupboard doors should round off the look. Once everything is done and cleaned I'll take some more final shots.

Thanks Herb, same you and yours. It feels so much better already in there. I'm trying to finish off a few of the outstanding projects before starting anything new... I'm bad at that.

Picked this old champion cabinet up for $15 at an antique place. Looks legit, lock has a pat date of 1956... guessing the unit is early 60's. might build a small steel shelf for inside and perhaps store some Willys stuff or something cool. Measures about 9"x9"x5". I think I got a decent price. Not screaming, but decent.

Man, everything is looking great! Love how your garage is coming along, I'm totally envious of how quickly you seem to get things together.

Thanks! Actually I had about 2 weeks off as the office was closed for Christmas. I had an even bigger list but you know how I t goes. Actually I'm very happy to have wrapped this part up, it was bugging me bad.

Just for fun, I took a short video of a cold start of my willys truck. Would have been longer but the media card was full. Anyways, she seems to run well, I had the fuel delivery system all rigged up with fresh fuel and i ran it a while. Check it out below.

Why'd you take the video in portrait mode? I see ********* bars on the side of my laptop. Your video only occupies 1/3 of my monitor. Please take it in landscape mode next time. Thanks.

No worries about camera mode. I got the picture loud and clear. An engine that starts right up and purrs nicely. Good result from the carb clean and other engine work!

It's just a quick phone camera video, wasn't really going for any composure here. The emphasis was more on how strong the engine sounded. That being said, this newer phone of mine does have pretty odd dimensions for pics and vids cuz of the screen size. I think if I were going for any sense of professionalism I'd probably use my real camera.

Thanks, ya I was just noodling about with it and thought I'd share a glimpse if people were interested. I think once I give the carb some tweaking it should run even stronger.

Not much to update here, been busy with other stuff. I did get a chance the other night to start processing the big pile of wood under my saw. I was going to cut it all up as kindling but then had a brainwave, so I grabbed a few measurements and started pounding out some rough cupboard doors.

They're real simple, just 2 rails and stiles with pegboard recessed in the centre. I'm planning to just run the router along the inner edge so that the 1/4" pegboard sits recessed. I wasnt really planning on tackling this now but I had all the materials so it helps get them out of the way. I may actually need to pick up more wood.

Also, My uncle picked me up a cool Snap-On stool for the shop (same uncle I got the welding table, lathe, card file, red vise, and a mess of other tools from). It's nice and comfy and has a good range of heights, I'm real happy with it.

A big part of the project is gathering the materials and cutting them while you are in the groove, mass prodeuction style.now that everything is swept up, you can assemble a door or two without a big. mess. How many doors do you need?

I see the space heater. is the wood stove in service or not ready for operation?

The late FiL had a go at cabinet making. All of his doors sag and droop even with reinforcement plates screwed onto them. Any idea what he did wrong?

'88' is also the police call sign for domestic disturbance.

but yes you are correct it's just a number.. and it's your birth year so who cares what you call it.

Looking forward to seeing those doors up and glad to have an update to read on your project. Cheers!

Thanks very much! I hope to get a bunch of stuff wrapped up in here soon, maybe the workbench being the big thing.

Off the top of my head I forget the door count. I've made enough for about 16 doors so far, but the doors near the roll up rail will have to be sliders, so they'll be a little different.

The radiant heater I used an a rather cold day to help bring the inside temps up faster. once the stove is going the place maintains at about 70 no problem. I just got a thermometer so that might help me gauge it.

Not sure on that one. I'd be tempted to screw a piece of thin flat bar on an angle, from the top hinge corner to the drooping handle corner.

I had hoped to find the 88 emblem off a wrecked 53 olds 88 in the woods on my families farm and put it up, but no such luck.

Forgive the blurry pic, my camera seems to have issues focussing when the tube lights are cold and flickering. I scored a bit of nicer plywood for free last night, some 1/2" 1/4 sawn arctic maple. 2 sheets, one was 4x8 and one was 4x7. I had to rip them down the middle to fit in the car (luckily its cabinetry stuff, so its an extra 1/2" both ways)

Back story to this stuff is that Ive been going through piles of old veneer sheets and laminates at my work's warehouse and getting rid of stuff. The previous owner was a plywood product company and made high-end laminates and veneers. I've been sorting through their left behind products and listing full skids on kijiji, but there's a ton of mismatched stuff that's just going to go for free. I spotted this stuff and thought, "you know, that might make a nice toolbox," so I sliced it up. worst case scenario I list it for free and get rid of it.

Quit looking for the 88 emblem and it will fall Into your lap or maybe trip over it.

you never know. All i have found so far is part of the back end of the car, maybe if I can find the trunk lid i'll get it. the Previous owner started a salvage business and would just doze the remains into the woods. I still have to go through that area and clean it out completely, sifting the good bits of trim etc while im at it. Good trim on this car, whenever I strip all this stuff I'll see if I can sell it

What a read!

Amazing where you started with this shed, to your current state.

Very inspiring to see how well you have utilised what space you have, especially with the majority being free/recycled parts.

I know only a few posts ago I had said I was making cupboard doors like my old plan with the inset pegboard, and I had even started in on cutting material. However, I might be inclined to re-tool my idea slightly, seeing as how I picked something up that may work better and faster.

I mentioned that I've been going through old stock at work, right? well, one of the skids had a small load of Maple veneered cupboard doors for a boardroom or something, maybe 50 doors, 2'x7'. about 30 or so of them had no finish on them, and seeing as how resale value of old cupboard doors of that size is almost valueless, I stuck them in the free pile and forgot about them for a few days.

Anyways, I recently looked over one of them and figured I could slice it down to make it work for lower cupboard doors when I build the main bench, keeping the theme of Maple being the main wood. I then figured I might as well do the upper cupboards for some design continuity. I know they wont have quite the same character as the pegboard idea but hear me out. They're solid, so dust wont float through (and I make a lot of dust), they're pre-made out of quality AA grade Maple, they already have the edge banding glued on (real Maple), they're almost the right width as is, and they're free. The fact that they're unfinished is nice too, as I can do what I want with them. Well, that was enough to convince me, I took the unfinished ones home with me.

I even tossed an off-cut on to see how it looked, pretty nice actually, and it will be nice to finish the place out in something a little higher grade than the rough sawn pallet-wood. Best of all, $0.00

Thanks very much! I know using free stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea (certainly not always code-approved), but I've enjoyed it and I know I've saved a ton of money that I could use for tools (or realistically, bills and groceries).

Nah, that's not old. Old is when they take your drivers license at 94 ;)

Good job on the recycled maple Doors. It makes the project that more worthwhile to you knowing how much work you put into it. And more money for tools.
