And just like that the two trees that were in the way, are gone... We could not believe how quickly and efficiently these folks took out those trees... They arrived with 4 trucks and a crew of 8 people...

I kid you not... trees were down in 5 minutes and everything was done in less than 1/2 hour!! When they left, outside of the trees not being there, I could not tell anything had happened. The left the lawn cleaner than when they got there...

The machine that grinds the stump is remote controlled... super cool...

Company we used was Wood Doctor Tree Service ( https://thewooddoctortreeservice.com/ ) . Highly recommended and the prices were 1/2 of what others were asking.... insane...

That is all I had pending on my end... I continue to wait my turn for when they can start the build... it is going to be a long 10 months...

Not much to report. We got all approvals for the build... so that is out of the way.

There are still 20 buildings in front of us before they can start with ours...

Realized I have not share details on the final build...

6" slab - 30x'30' - I could not build it larger... it is an eyesore in the back as it is... I really wanted at least an acre lot to build it out of the way from the lanai... but it is what it is... I guess the positive is that I do not have to walk that far from the house to get into the garage :D

Structure is made out of wood... 12' walls - 30'x30. Two garage doors 10'x10' with 36" x 80" side door, and one window at the back for cross-ventilation (but once I have electrical in the structure, I want an A/C) . Siding will be some fiber board or something like that, not the vinyl siding you see in the drawing... it will look like the rest of the house. Matching roof shingles as well...

Lucky you, regular monolithic slab. I too ended up with 6” slab even though I also had footers placed for a future two post lift.
Glad you’re able to finally start. Mine was 9 months but only one long day to erect. Hopefully your build goes quickly.

I am installing a two-post lift... I thought that the 6" slab would be enough to do that...

Now you got me thinking, but I do not know where the lift is going to be located... arghh! I did not think about that.

From my research, 6” is the required thick on existing concrete. I just decided it wouldn’t hurt to increase the depth of pads another 6” while they’re there. 12” total

John you know how we like to do things in Florida, our square and level. 😜

Congratulations on the start. Do you have an estimated time frame?
Also, how do you like the shade sails?

All kidding aside... Should be done by end of September. Then I have to do the electrical. The ramp to it... Insulation and walls... tile the floor with porcelain tiles so they take the weight and abuse of the stuff planned for the shop...

The sails? We love the sails. Inexpensive, look great, provide excellent shade... they went up quickly. Only problem is I did not let the 4x4 dry before installing... so one bent.

Anyway... those are temporary as we want to install some sliding screen on the opening of the lanai and a Pergola on the open space... The Pergola will have some pull out shades as well. But first I also need to tile the area.

Everything was pending on getting the shop built. Can't use the savings until the shop is built... project scope creep and all that... can't risk spending more and being short to pay the builder when he is done...

I did sneak in the purchase of a Crossfire XL when the wife was not looking... but let's keep that between us...

Nice to see it's coming along! And nice call on the signs, especially when it's just slightly different then normal...reminders like that are a great cue for people to check. Same concept as the medical field uses with surgery and patients/doc's marking the leg/arm/area to be operated in prior to going in to reduce the risk of screw ups!

Absolutely. Especially when he told me to remind him since everything else he was doing was 4" at 3,000 psi....

I am asking them to leave a dirt ramp...saves me on later getting dirt to build a ramp. And great temporary solution to get all my **** up there...
