I decided to go with OSB on the ceiling as well. Same reasons as the walls. Only challenge was getting 4 X 8 sheet of it up 12’ so I picked up a lift. This thing saved my ****

As I was going to put up the 3rd sheet, I realized I hadn’t really prepared anything in the attic space and I also obtained a new compressor through a trade with my brother, so I began installing some air lines so I can have a couple of hose reels in the ceiling.

After plumbing all of this with 3/4” “stuff” (I’ll say stuff because I don’t remember the name of it right now), I decided to do a new filter and redo the plumbing at the compressor.

If you’re looking for something to plumb your airlines, this stuff cannot be beat. It was easy to work with and install and came with pretty much everything I needed to put 3 air drops throughout the shop. it comes with 100’ of piping so it was just enough to get a drop at both ends of my shop and one near the compressor for the tig/plasma cutter. I’ll post this so I can get the name of it and continue on the next post.

The line is called Maxline and it comes in a kit called the master series. I bough it on Amazon so you can do a simple search for Maxline there and see all of their options. For $175 you get the connectors and drops etc. I cannot speak highly enough about it. After plumbing it and bringing the pressure up to about 150psi, I let it sit for a day and there was no drop in pressure throughout the 100’ of piping so called this one a success:

On to the ceiling. Here are some pics:

More priceless tools. I have the Dewalt 18v versions of these but they were just too bulky to lug up and down the A-Frame ladders when installing the OSB.

I closed up the top and middle gaps on the OSB with some rough sawn pine I used from the siding. I’ll grab some better photos of it later.

Not part of the shop build but one of the enabled projects due to the shop was my acquisition of a Jeep Wrangler. Made some mods and have been driving it on nice days.

Mod 1 - removed the top permanently since I can keep it in the shop LOL

Mod 2 - Seat covers

Mod 3 - Resprayed the fender flares

Mod 4 - New rollbar covers

Thing looks damn near new now.

Read back through my post and looking at all the money spent, I just wanted to give my lovely wife a shout out for putting up with it all!

Couldn’t have done any of it without you! Love you!!!

Just Truck Bed Liner paint from HD.

One tip, paint them all at the same time because if you stop for more than 15 min, the can spray nozzle will clog and you cant unclog it.

Haven’t posted updates in a while so here goes:

It got hot this past summer so settled on a new mini split system for the shop. Almost went with the Mitsubishi’s but settled on the Carrier system (had a better warranty from Estes)

I had Estes come out and give me a quote and design for the shop based on 2000 sq ft 12’ ceilings. They spec’d a 36K btu with 2 18K BTU units inside. I had looked at some DIY units such as Mr Cool, but in the end decided that I didn’t want to spend my time working on HVAC and I wanted something that would last.

I can give more details on the unit if someone would like but to sum it up, they have been more than adequate to cool and heat the entire shop within 2 degrees from any location inside. I’m extremely happy with the units, the only negative I would give them is that they are not controllable with a 3rd party thermostat. Since there are two indoor units, both have to be set the same with the included remotes.

Also built my brother a Bar for his basement. We did this on a shoestring budget with some left over bead board and pine 2 X 4s. Didn’t turn out too bad!

Of course I cant justify QST without a project thrown in for my fantastic wife, so she wanted a new closet to give her more room since we downsized houses. Her closet in our previous house was a lot bigger so one of the things I promised once the shop was done was to build her some organization in her closet:

I don’t brush stains and finishes any longer, so I had to build a quick spray booth in the shop. It worked great and not a spec of overspray anywhere.

After the wife’s closet I had earned a little something for myself! Or at least that what I kept telling myself. LOL

I’ve been reading a lot of threads on automotive lifts. I had thought about just about every brand out there and how I’d order it, wait, and somehow figure out how to get it in my shop and install it.

Fortunately, my brother is a mechanic and he convinced me to not skimp on it with a cheap one. I’d regret it later on etc. I settled on a Rotary lift and began pricing them from a few sources. It seems a lot of the auto parts stores resell these, but there is always that one big concern about how I get it. A tractor trailer isn’t going to be able to get to my house and if they did, I just don’t have a way to get it off a truck and into my shop.

I decided to see if I could find someone who would deliver and maybe even install it. I figured this would be a long process but boy was I mistaken. I called Needham Equipment Company locally here in Georgia to inquire about their prices and if they could obtain the Rotary Lifts. I received a quote within 30 minutes of calling them and by the end of the day I had given them the green light to buy, deliver, and install the lift.

Here’s the crazy part, they called me at 7AM the very next morning to see if I was available for delivery and installation. Of course I said Yes!

So within 24 hours of calling Needham Equipment Company, I had a working, brand new, Rotary lift in my shop!

Unbelievable how much more fun and relaxing it is working on a vehicle on a lift:

Bottom line if your in the market for a lift in Georgia, Alabama, or Florida, give these folks a call and ask for Lauren! She was fantastic and so prompt. Installation crew was professional and very knowledgable. Ordering a lift, deliver, and installation was always a fear for me, but as far as all of the things I’ve done to the shop so far it ended up being the easiest, and fastest thing I did.

You can get IR/wifi based control systems for any mini split system. Then you can set a schedule like a thermostat. Cielo Breez is one.

I have two completely separate 18k units, although it should be similar to your dual head 36k. I only run mine 4-9pm m-f and 8am-9pm s/s which keeps the space from going over 100 at any time, and about 80 when I am in the building. So a scheduler is really helpful to me and I can turn on/off remotely with my phone.
My increase in electric bill from the mini's can't really be noticed. Maybe $20 a month. Best money ever spent!

A lift and A/C are both game changers. but friends and neighbors may notice and ask for more help
