Re: worse tool brand

Worst tool I can think of are the ones that come with assemble yourself furniture. I assume there are people that use that little phillips and flat wrench. I use the included allen by cutting off the short section and chucking the rest in a drill.

Second place would be a Sears adjustable wrench. Not Craftsman but Sears. I think its the only tool I threw in the trash. (I pulled it out twice before I finally said "you're out of here")

+2

Allied tools are not good either, I once broke the claw off a hammer trying to pry a board off. Let me just say it did hurt a little

The old Oxwalls. Made in post war Germany, Japan and right here in the USA.

Stamped out of maybe 14 or 12 gauge sheet metal and plated with "something" (I don't think it was chrome) in the raw state...

Made Globemaster look a cut above!

So bad I started collecting a few just to have some to show people how bad it gets!

A full set of sae/metric combo wrenches from harbor freight. Made in india. Bought them for 8 bucks when I was a teen. I still wish I had the 8 bucks.

A Wal-Mart Special general home repair tool set had the worst flex-head 3/8 drive ratchet that I had ever seen. I bent the head swivel on the first try while driving a small lag screw.

Agreed, especially those "wrenches" cut out of sheet metal. Or any other tool that comes with cheaper products that need assembly.

Was it a Japan made one? If so that surprises me. I had two (now one) of those and they seemed just like the other cman adjustable wrenches. Worked fine for me :dunno:

Some no-name made in India wrenches they had at a place I used to work. The box-end of a wrench broke in spectacular fashion loosening an oil plug on a truck. Many others from that set met a similar fate doing various jobs.

The Jobsmart **** at Tractor Supply is pretty bad. Tractor Supply has the size to host a pretty decent house line if they wanted to, but that clearly isn't so. Old Task Force was pretty bad too.

I had some SAE wrenches I bought at 99cents store when I was young and and broke, those things were BAD. Also had some real cheap SAE sockets that would twist apart and crack with light duty use...

I'm glad I'm older now...With more money.

Oh wait its opposite day.

Probably anything made in India. Holy **** their stuff makes Chinese tools look good. I have some junk India made stubby wrenches, if they were regular length I would have broken them by now!

Idk. I've thrown and cursed the few HF tools I have due to me bleeding a few times. I have a Mastercraft set that I've broken damn near a third of the tools in it.

Haha I use old Oxwall sockets very often when I do dirty work with oil and stuff. They are totaly ****, but they are great tools if you don't want your snap on is getting dirty ;)

I would I agree with you, but those stamped steel wrench actually help me a few times because they are so thin. I needed something thinner than a tappet wrench, and that cheesy set actually allowed me to hold the nut while turning a proximity probe.

Worse would be some of the china and india no name wrench sets. My uncle bought those and I actually cut my hand using a 9/16 because the "rounded" edge wasn't completely smooth and had a nice sharp edge in one spot on the wrench.....JUNK!

+1 Yep. The tools forged in India are probably the worst.

Although, I have to admit that I own a set the Indian wrenches ... use them whenever I need a wrench to cut short, grind thin, or bend into some funky angle for some one-time odd job.

Probably, Globemaster. I had a set of their wrenches when I was a kid. I think I broke all of them and my knuckles also. Anything made in India is a POS. Makes you wonder what a mechanic in India uses. I have some of those Gedore wrenches made in India. They are all bent, either from me heating them or just from normal use. I got them in a box of junk at an auction.

Re: worse tool brand

...Old Task Force was pretty bad too.

Actually, the original Task Force brand at Lowes was pretty good, I am referring to when they introduced the line, and Kobalt was made by Williams. I have a set of their Made in the USA nut drivers I still use to this day. They eventually dumbed down the line and shipped everything over to China, but my Task Force Ratchets were made in Tiawan and as stated, the nut drivers were made in the USA. There was a point in time I really considered it at least equal in quality to Craftsman (that's not a high water mark or anything, just a reference point).

Now, for real junk tools, go to Big Lots and pick up any wrench that doesn't have a name stamped on it...complete and total ****. Somebody mentioned Buffalo, and I'd tend to agree. Also in that group, the $2.99 3/8 ratchet at Pep Boys. Man those are terrible and not even worth it if you'll use them once a year. I had one in my "tailgate party toolbox" (yes I really have one of those), and it broke the very first time. Talk about ****!

Re: worse tool brand

There's a generic mom and pop HF type store in town, and they sell the absolute junkiest tools. I can't remember the name on them, but they just looked like ****.
I have on occasion bought a Jobsmart wrench at Tractor Supply when I needed one to modify for a specific job, otherwise I steer clear.

Re: worse tool brand

I would say the Jonesway tools at Fastenal. They are literally rebadged HF tools which isn't necessarily bad, just the fact they are marked up so much.

Re: worse tool brand

I would say anything in India. Those guys couldn't forge or stamp thier way out of a wet paper bag if they tried.

Even the few Indian friends I have can't stand the tools. A friend keeps an unused set of Indian made combos in his tool box he got as a Christmas gift one year. He says its his settlement from Union Carbide in the 1980's. :shocking:

Re: worse tool brand

The old Tool Source sold by KMart. Those were the worst. Their in house branded BenchTop stuff was pretty good, though. They were made in the US back in the day. Unfortunately, most of mine were stolen out of my car years ago.

Re: worse tool brand

Where i used to work the boss got the new employee a set of own brand tools from B&Q (local diy store £20 for three draw box...). We used to spend out days see how long something would last till it broke. Remember trying to turn a shaft with some slip joint pliers, they just slid round it despite the two handed death grip.
Thinking two pliers would be better than one i got my britool set on there too and was surprised to be able to undo it one handed.

Oh and Rolson, friend got some 6" junior saw blades, first cut was 3/4 plastic pipe, got half way through and no more, turns out all the teeth had worn off!

Re: worse tool brand

Any tool that hurts me when I use it, but I have to agree with that junk you get with furniture you have to assemble. I tried using one of the phillips screwdrivers and it sheered the tip off before the screw even compressed the lock washer. :wtf:
