A while back I was fortunate enough to get in on the Lowes Kobalt compressor deal. Got this compressor for $195 out the door brand new.

My father recently inherited a 3hp 60 gallon Ingersol Rand similar to this from my grandfather's estate.

My compressor is brand new, never run (in the processor of getting the dedicated outlet ran to the corner I want it in). The IR is 3-4 years old, but very lightly used and well maintained like everything my grandfather had.

I was joking around with the old man and told him I'd take that big compressor off his hands if he wanted to trade. To my surprise, he said he wouldn't be upset with that deal at all, as there was an old tv and stereo setup I was planning on giving him anyway.

In talking with my wife, she thinks I'm nuts to consider trading new for used. I am leaning towards taking the deal because the used machine is higher quality and should be more able to keep up with running air tools(mainly impact and light use of a DA sander) as I work on my 69 C10.

Sounds like a good trade for you! Most IR compressors I've come across are real workhorses, even with minimal care. I assume you'll probably taking very good care of it, so that's even better n

and why are you asking your wife for her opinion anyway? :headscrat:spit:

She actually is very handy in the garage when I need a helper. Seeing as how she'd be using said compressor, I figured I'd at least solicit her opinion on what she thought. Didn't say it was going to stop me from doing the deal.

I learned a long time ago it's better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.

No Brainer!! TRADE!!!! bigger tank, more CFm's, Better brand...

My thoughts exactly. Figured the poll results would be exactly what they have turned out to be.

I say don't trade.

Keep your Lowe's compressor for the Mrs, BUY the IR from your Dad and tell your Mrs, she can't use or even look at your compressor :D

If she needs to use the IR, tell her it'll cost her $5, up front, for every 3 minutes :bounce:

You answered your own question. Good to excellent quality used in nice shape always trumps mediocre new. Not to mention the higher capacity.

That Kobalt is like 5 CFM, I didn't see any numbers for the IR but fairly sure its about twice that.

Get the IR and don't let on to Dad that you think you got one over on him! :)

Sure, break up the one and only poll on GJ that was likely to have been unanimous, AND give bad advise to boot! He does that and she's likely to start charging HIM for certain "favors", and I bet she'd charge more than $5....

:twak:
