I got bored this evening. So I went out and started fidding with my Craftsman ratchets. I fixed the 3/8" drive, i put 3 little sheetmetal shims under the spring. it doesnt skip and all that garbage now. Then i filled the ratchets with Fluid Film oil(pretty slick stuff, my dad uses it on alot of stuff.) on the gears. WOW they smoothed out. they ratchet really well now.:pimpflash

I also compaired the inards between all my dads and my Craftsman ratchets. The design sure has changed. He has a full set of V's, and a VV 3/8 and a Vf? 3/8. I have a K2w 3/8 and 1/4", and a tsomethingsomething 1/2".

Who else has had a simple tune and oil job work mericles on these and similer ratchets?

Lots of threads about cleaning, lubing & rebuilding ratchets on here. It should be a pre requisite of becoming a member.

I like to soak them in an ATF bath. Then disassemble and use a pick to clean out the hardend gunk remaining. Finish with a nice coating of Superlube. The ATF bath works really well. I use it for anything stuck or sticky.and it hasn't failed to unstick anything yet.

That's some natty stuff.
Off topic- Anyone else think it's strange that Natural Light is using the term "natty" in commercials now, especially since the term was used to descibe how nasty the stuff is?

If your going to be drinking the lower quality swill at least you should be shooting for there high octane version "Natty Ice". After a few, you dont even really care WHAT it tastes like:willy_nil

You should see what Fluid Film does on the undersides of mower decks. That stuff is amazing in wet grass conditions!
We've used it on the spindle bearing on mower decks.

I was out there this afternoon lubeing all of our roundhead ratchets today. 10 of them. Wow is all i can say again. They all smoothed out, even the cheap single gear ones. the Napa and Challenger (proto) duel cams smoothed out to the point they sound like zipties.
